Go have a look here
http://www.are.com.au/
They make all sorts of size coolers and they look like quality stuff.
Also the website has prices! gotta love that.
Send them an email and they will tell you what min-max size you need.

DTS has a kit for their tyrbo which would probably be adaptable to the factory turbo:

they also do a front mount kit, as do safari

Best ive heard is $1200 from Cooma Diesel for the APS kit self install, then they dyno the motor.
APS make the complete kit for the t/d and there is major torque increases like 380 becomes 500mn
Most of this is attributed to the motor dyno mods though.
Front mounted is the only way to go as motor heat reduces efficiency. No overheating problems with the APS kit and the cooler is robust (i know i have one)

do they do one for thrbo'd 1HZ? I have a denco turbo sitting in a box in the shed waiting for a day to go on. $1200 is hella cheap.

I am pretty sure they do, search under APS will find their home page, where they offer turbo intercooled 1hz. Im also fairly sure it was 1200 for the self install, might be wrong, just remember speaking to a guy who did it a few months back.

is this Safari /APS? last I asked them (about 6 months ago I think) they absolutely would not under any cirsumstances do 'supply only' - all their products had to be fitted by one of their fitters. it would be cool to be wrong about that :)

Yep thats their policy... but there are ways around that like asking a supplier like Cooma Diesel if they will sell you the kit and then, when it is brought back installed you will get them to do the dynoing.... thats borderline...and they still get the extra $$$$ for the tuneing.

I wonder if they'll sell to me at all since I didn't buy their turbo? know any suppliers closer to sydney who will do a similar deal? as much as I love driving, I'm not all that keen on a drive to Cooma just for a tune up ;)

I emailed APS and asked them to quote supply only, will see how it goes.

cheers

Tewoomba diesel sell them too i believe. Friend bought a safari turbo system for his Patrol there, and fitted it himself...Safari frown on it, but ....
There are quite a few custom intercoolers around, guy on overlander forumn makes them to suit...

I got email back from APS, they quoted me rrp of over $2000 for the kit plus around $500 installation, and said they wouuldn't ship me one and that I'd have to go to one of their local distributors.

plus hinted that it was specific to the safari turbo, so I'm wondering how much difference is there really? the only thing I can see that would be different is mathing the cooler plumbing up to my turbo outlet, position and/or diameter might be slightly different, but a little bootie here and there to massage it all into position couldn't be all that difficult, right?

Should be fairly straight forward to fit in, the safari turbo is straight under the exhaust manifold and most turbos would be in that position.

that's my feeling. when I'm better enough to have a converesation without spraying snot all over whoever is standing in front of me I'll go see the ultra tune bloke and see if they'll do supply only, and if their price is ok campared to the rrp

*cough*

OOhhh thats no good..lol aslong as the Ultra Tune bloke is one of their distributers, then that will work.

yes they are a distributor, APS were kind enough to give me the name of a few sydney distributors. ultra tune blacktown is one of them and they're about a ten minute walk from my place so I'll start there.

snot, anyone? *cough*
