How good are they.

Hello everyone , this is my first time here and i have to say that the amount of info you have here is mind boggling.

I have narrowed down a choice for a new(second) car , between the petrol feroza, deisel rocky and the suzuki vitara.

Have you any good and bad reactions about either of the Daihatsu 4x4's , i guess the benifits/drawbacks of either the petrol and deisel and what to look for when browsing the car yards and private sellers.

Thanks in advance
Firestang

diesel rocky (LWB).... apart from the lack of aftermarket parts (buy two of them) they will go most places locked rigs can with less mods

x50. Go the rocky. Get a live axle model if u can. Freroza's are IFS, and vitaras are IFS and depending on year may be IRS too. A stock rocky will wip either of their arses. My rocky went heaps more places stock than a friends live axle sierra. Now with 2" lift, the only stuff that makes it stop is pretty insane anwyway.... if it had 31's and a winch it will go anywhere others will

Diesels will last longer than petrol if looked after, also more economical and powerful, but give up any hopes of dragging people off at the lights with a diesel :D Down side, diesel will cost a bit more to fix if something goes wrong ( i think :?: ), either will be hard/impossible to get after market mods for. Check for any noises in the gearbox, rev the engine nice and hard - look for smoke - bit of black is fine on a diesel, blue or white is bad, as is ALOT of black. But most will blow a fair bit. Any visible smoke on a petrol is bad. Check for rust in the most unusuall and unnoticeable places, but i've found rust to be not such a problem, nothing an angle grinder and bog cant fix neway :D. Best advice, car prices are gunna/are plummeting, so get a good deal, dont even bother with car yard cause you'll spend 2k too much. Get TD if u can

I'd go for the Turbo Diesel Rocky also firestang

Dont worry about the front axel thing... the later IFS ones make up for it with an intercooler.... and some style :finger:

I also had this same question when I was looking for my 4x4..

Simply, it came down to the other two were just too small.

You're can't really go wrong with any of the vehicles you have decided on. Only really got to find one in good condition and a vehicle thats going to be fit for what you want it for.

It all depends on the type of use you want it for...

If you wanna do a fair bit of 4x4ing.. and maybe harder stuff later on.. go for a Suzuki Sierra or a Diesel Rocky (solid axels).

If you wanna just nip around town and do a bit of beach type stuff.. I'd go for a Feroza and then a Vitara.
These two have a few aftermarket things available.. with the Suzi having slightly more options.

If you need to tow or lug a bit of stuff around, go for the Rocky hands down.

How much $$ are you looking at spending??
About 8g will get you into the Latest model Rockys, anything under will be the solid axel, older models. Just make sure you get the TURBO! :D

Fine, if i drive past you and your cars muddy i will retract this statement :D ...

...wasn't making a blanket statement, just that I have honestly never seen one that was the slightest bit dirty and/or modified (in real life of course)... plenty mean ones on the net.

Yeah you want to watch what you're saying.... A Feroza driver knifed some guy in Adelaide this week after he confronted him about his driving!

It was down south where Crowey and Dangerous Dave live..............

hehe, Best not get a Feroza then, we seem to be the dangerous type.

Back to the question at hand.
Ive had a Vitara before the Feroza, nice cars, lots of spares, reliable, easy to find a "jsut driven around the city by my grandma" in Great condition.
Feroza's on the other hand are generally USED more as 4wd and as such are in worse condition.
Spare parts for Feroza's are a joke, expensive, rare... best to mod another manufactures spares to fit.
Personally i think Vitara's are girls car's and Feroza's are Boy's cars, as for rocky's... remember the ugly sister's? :)

If our 'ugly' sisters weren't so great... you wouldn't even have a Roza
And yes... we'll pull you out when you get stuck :finger:

i have a well driven Feroza and believe me with bigger tyres and a bit of skill you will not stop a feroza except on the big stuff that usually stops most cruiser drivers cause they don't wanna scratch their $50 000 plus daily driver.

Snorkels are easy to make check out my home custom job.

all i need is a 2in body lift and 31's and then watch the bush buster go over or thru any obstacle

G'day HotFourOk i was thinking about selling a snorkel kit for the fez on ebay same design as what i got ....what do ya think ???

I've always thought of Rocky's as the big brother, comes and bails out the little dude (feroza's) when they get stuck :D
