i installed a winch and a new battery about a month back. As car is a weekender its been sitting in the garage for about 2 weeks and hasn't been started. Went to start it up tonight and it didn't start....dead batt...jumped it and charged and it was fine.

why would a brand new battery lose charge like that?

Is it the winch?

The winch is connected as per manufacuters wiring diagram also with a kill switch on the control box earth lead. Would it suck charge from the car while its just sitting there?

strange....

the winch should not flatten a battery if it is just sitting there.

But you may have something in the system that is draining power though. if you have a multi meter that has a Milliamp feature on it you can put this in series with your battery and the Positive terminal and see how much current is getting drawn. If you have more than about 50ma that means there is something that is using more power than it sould be, Then you start disconnecting things to see what is drawing the current.

Cheers
Simon.
