mods and tire limits for general comps in Vic.

i have started building up a GQ for competition in vic. Can anyone help me with guidelines i need to stick what tire sizes i can run without putting myself into the next catagory. i was thinking about fitting between 35-40inch tires,depending on your advice. any help would be most apprecited thanks mitch

36 x 12.5 is the limit. But a 37 x 13 bogger WILL fit in the rules if run on an 8 inch rim, if run on a 10 inch rim they will be to wide and will not pass the rules.
The rules for most comps in Vic are keeping so many rigs back from progressing it isn`t funny. With Vic having this tyre limit size all rigs will still basicly be the same in 5 years time

But you still WILL NOT be up with the front runners as you need to spend some big dollars on motor mods to stay with the front runners.
No differently really to ttc, you need to spend big dollars on tyres, suspension etc there to be a front runner. If you only spend small dollars you can still comp but you will not be at the front. Atleast you get DIFFERENT rigs built differently, they are not all basicly the same

I've always felt cost rose exponentially with tire size, thus it's good to have a lowish cap. A 36" is proabably about the limit before really expensive drive train mods, when driving hard in competition.
You do make a good point about the variety of vehicals peforming - though i think the reason for more variety (than GQ's) is simply down to the fact that you can build up lesser-cars with the big money.

Ah, but it is different. At least you can enter at entry level and although not place, you may be able to pick up sponsorship which will help you get higher and higher placings with the more experience you gain.
As for all trucks being relatively the same, ie. mostly GQ's & rangies. This is a good thing because it enables you as a team to out-drive your opponents instead of just getting whooped by a far superior setup.
There should be completely different comps perhaps; upto 36" road reg, unlimited road reg, and then buggy-type 4by's. And different classes of each depending upon sponsorship and experience.
Hopefully one day the sport will grow big enough that production teams get on board and big prize-money is on offer. In order for it to be successful, however, it needs to be accessible for newcomers to crack into the sport.

And the debat rages... Ok, I've been through this with off road buggy races.
Firstly you do have a point about the engine mods, however, as we all know the sole contribution to getting and keeping your vehicle moving is it's traction with the ground it's on. the best way to limit traction is to limit tyres. shit loads of power is useless if you got no traction. Yes power will help but little power with good traction will fair better in most circumstances than big power and limited traction. I think limiting tyre sizes is healthy for competition and seen as though alot of vic comps are on public land, it's healthy for the enviroment as well. Not everyone can nor wants to spend 3 grand on tyres.

so i can run a 37x13x15 bogger on a 8inch rim?? that is what i wanted but i was told 36.5 OD was the limit and the boggers are 36.8 i think from memory. great.

sandy bowman's ute is not a million dollar truck and he gives all others a good run was winning ateco till last stage winch self destructed. power etc helps but its not going to do crap if u cant drive.
