Has anyone know of or have one of these for a Hilux?

If so how did you make it, get it from?

I dont know of anyone who has created a feasible one, and I want one.

got an allpro one, and doing another custom one at present.

I looked at allpro one and for 299 US its too much to spend in Aussie Dollars.

Whats the go with the custom one?

What bits and pieces you using :?:

i believe richard at 4x4 engineering makes them, can get them (check with ruff as i am sure he will know) and they are only about 400 bucks, i think with the time and money you would spend getting it right it would be cheaper and easier to buy one.

Richard is currently working on this and has an all pro one to go off but I don't know if he has one ready for production yet. I know he was getting disks made but unsure of caliper supply. Talk to him though. If you tell him that Dave with the white single cab hilux with crossover steering sent you, he might forget about the $1000 I owe him! :lol:

Here are a few calipers that people are using here

You can get the caliper (mechanical, lever type)from Hayes brakes http://www.hayesbrake.com/standard_products.html I am using part # 1110M (if you click on "light and medium duty mechanical" its at the bottom of the pop up window)


Some guys are also using calipers from racing go-karts as well. :D

The caliper brake idea would work fine as long as you can prove to an engineer that the clamping force on the caliper is greater than that supplied by the OE handbrake. Your insurance company would have to be satisfied that such an important safety item is properly engineered

Has anyone done this to replace the joke of a handbrake on rear disc 'cruisers?

i have been told that as a tx case caliper brake is a hold brake and not an emergency brake it is not as important. (this is because of split system brakes) also if you factor in gearing a tx case brake would hold bloody well.
still it depends on the engineer, one i was going to goto was not happy with an allpro one more because of the rotor having too many holes and no strength.
