What do you think about this?

Hi all,
I'm a newb to the 4wd scene, looking to buy my first 4wd for 8- 10K, and after some posts in the general chit-chat section decided that I'm after a SWB Pajero. What do you all think about this one?
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales ... id=2720124
I'll be getting an RACQ inspection on it but at a first glance what should i be looking for? Rust around the wheel arches and across the windscreen, underbody damage, CV boots, oil leaks...anything else? Not massively technical around cars but I don't want to RACQ an obvious lemon.
The other thing is my garage has a stupid roller door so i've only got about 187 cm clearance - i think a stock paj is 184? Is that right? I'll need to do a garage-test to make sure it'll go, and that'll mean driving it in till the roofrack almost hits then checking roof clearance, and taking the rack off once I've got it. Should be fun explaining that one...hope it fits, want that model and hate to look like i'm tyre-kicking *doh*.
Thanks all - Mike

Hi Mike
The NH sounds OK, but I think that Qld law requires a roadworthy certificate before they can offer to sell. Lots of people ignore this law, but it might help with negotiations.
Mine's 194cm, but (from memory) that's about 12cm taller than standard. So I would expect a stock NH to be more like 182cm, so you should have enough room for bigger tyres
or suspension lift, but not necessarily both.
For defects, I think you've got the basics covered. Listen for noises as you drive it - if it sounds unusual it could be a problem. If nothing else, you can give the RACQ guy something to worry about.
Cheers,
Scott

Yeah just bought mine about 6 weeks ago paid $7700 for it. 94 NJ SWB 196000 km still had the original rims and tyres so very little previous off-road use. I would be looking around abit more if your not in a rush

Wow - good price - I've been keeping an eye out and thats the best i've found so far. Where did you hear about that one? Specialist website or website/local paper?
Good point about the roadworthy/safety cert as well NJ SWB - hadn't notice it didn't come with one so i guess i walk away...
I'll let you know what happens!

look for smoke, let it idle for a while like 2 mins and check, also a trick a dealer taught me is sit it on 2000 rpm for about 2 mins then floor it, if it's going to do any thing it'll do it then.
if it idles rough that might be an ecu or just bad tuning. $100-$1000+
i baught a lemon i now know what to look for (avoid the yellow ones.
