3y 4runner headache

Post by micromachine »

Hi Guys,

A mate of mine has a 85 4runner 3y, The last 2 times we've gone 4x4 as soon as we hit the dirt it plays up so we turn around and head home :bad-words: .

Symptoms: Engine idles fine, also we can rev it tits off no probs. Its just the first initial stage of acleration when it misses.

Things he has replaced: fuel filters, fuel pump, rotor button, coil, carby kit, cleaned tank and carby.

Can anyone help with some advice plz?? :)

tried leads?

And why would it only do it on the dirt? Are we talking steep inclines?

Had the same problem with mine. would idle fine and free rev fine but as soon as you started to load up the motor it would miss and backfire like crazy

Not a good thing to happen at 3am in the middle of a paddock while out spotlighting in rough country with a 2 hour low range first gear drive back to camp

Don't now just seems to happen just after we stop and lock in the hubs or something, no both times its happened on farely flat terrain.

I'll let him know to try some new leads, thanks heaps guys. :)

i had a 3y rocky that would miss and die when loaded up (ie going up hills) after a carby rebuild, leads coil etc, it turned out to be a dud distributer, can't remember what was wrong with it exactly, but swappin in another made it all good
