What are everyones thoughts of putting an turbo on a N/A 100 series Cruiser?
Will i need to rebuild the motor to handle the turbo or will it handle it without any problems?
I was thinking of putting a Denco Turbo with a 3" straight through zorst, will this suit the 100 series well?

How many kms on motor, you shouldnt need to touch it.

Definately go denco, there was a very imformative write up in 4wd monthly a few issues back by antman, not cheap, around the $6k mark by the time it was installed, dynoed, water to air intercooler and replaced injectors and tuned.
Biggest problem would be gearbox strength, 1HZ 100 series came with R series gearboxes which are marginal for strength in that size of 4WD IMHO.

Being toyota built it won't handle an after market turbo (with any sort of worthwhile boost)!!! Just open the exhaust and give it some air. Then it MAY last a while.

Nohing wrong with Denco but the DTS system uses a mitsubishi turbo which has a 360 degree thrust which means a stronger turbo. Ben Russel uses a Mitsubishi DTS on his Patrol with modified comp cover and comp wheel at 28 psi. If you want something special you can get a Roller turbo which will spool quicker for more power sooner. MTQ who are DTS also do diesel pumps and injectors, I've used them for some comp cars with success

In regards to the 1HZ being strong enough, yep I built one last year for the Vic Winch that runs 22 psi with a roller turbo and modified pump, I fitted better pistons and balanced the engine, this is excessive for most peoples needs, the main thing is to pull the rocker cover off and close the gap on the splash gaurd as if going up hill at high revs the engine oil gets pumped to the top end and out the breather into the intake, through the engine which the vehicle will run on until it self distructs(it won't turn off and will be hard to stall) I have seen this in a factory turbo. Running a catch can is adviseable. I've fitted kits to vehicles with 200 k + klms. What kills engine is too much fuel, use a pyro to set it up correctly and on engine over 150 k klms then get the injectors done as engine failures occur due to dribbling injectors and poor atomization.

Why is it that some people say they wont handle it and other say it wont be a problem? All i want to run is about 8PSI maybe 10, is that going to be pushing it on the 1HZ, taking in mind it only has 130,000ks on the clock.

from what i see some people have different ideas on how much boost the motor should take. 8-10 would be fine, but some people put 15 in it and expect it to perform.

If you stick to the manufacturer of the turbo kits guidelines you won't have any issues at all.
There are lots of 100 series running around with aftermarket turbos. Most kits come with the turbo already set to the correct boost pressure. Its just a matter of fueling that is altered to deliver the correct amount of power.
IPlease get it set up properly to start with.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the response. I think i will go with the Denco Turbo, not sure if i will have the $$$ to intercool it right away but will be on the to do list.
