Was having a discussion with a mate about which battery is best to run ur winch off, my last rig (Rollux) had it run off main battery with D/lights which worked good, anyway he thinks it should run off other battery deep cycle, Just want to know wat u guys think, reasons, opinions
Thanks Lou

personally i prefer to run it off the primary starter type battery. deep cycle don't like delivering the big current draw, and the second battery sometimes doesn't get the best alternator assistance with some dual battery setups.

1000CCA Cat starting batterys are good, same size as a normal patrol battery, and good quality.

I would definitely run a winch off the main battery rather than the deep cycle, but that's just because I wouldn't want to have to fork out for a new deep cycle battery every time I use the winch.

GQ may be bigger but I just measured my factory GU battery position and the biggest length battery it will take is 316mm at the base.
Unless CAT over estimate their battery measurments, it definately won't fit a GU.

I actually tried to fit one in my patrol recently.

They fit in but you cant shut the bonnet because they are to high.
Cheers Mick.

I was going to start cutting bits of my bonnet frame out but ended up throwing that idea in the to hard basket.
Cheers Mick.

CAT locations in VIC.

I was chasing batteries a while ago and spoke to the Clayton outlet. I didnt get a cat as it was an inch longer than the GQ battery tray. Could be good for a second battery though.

For the 175 4390 (1000CCA) they are around $120, but you will not be able to fit them to the stand battry box- may fit as a secondary battery though.
These are cheaper because of the terminal postion being in the middle of the battery.
