Another freakin poll, what to buy?

I've been doin a bit of research and narrowed the choice of my next 4by down to either an
early 80's Rangie, LWB Zook or 80's dualcab Lux.
I've got a budget of around 10k (a little more if need be

) but would like to keep purchase price down as much as possible (more mods straight up

)
All have potential but which to buy and why? It'll be a dd but I can live with tradin some comfort for some off road ability

Thoughts lads

Other suggestions welcome too if they're sensible (and don't say pajero or lada

)

I say hilux
Why I hate ranges and suzi`s are just to small.
They all need $$$$$$ spent on them to make them any good and all are week when standard.
But simply put I think the hilux is just so easy to mod to make it good off road.

Buy a GQ and have the best of all worlds, Coils, shit loads of goodies available for them second hand etc.

I would say hilux!
It would be the strongest and the easiest to modify out of all of them!
Second hand parts are cheap due to the huge numbers that were sold and aftermarket performance parts like longfields, hi-steer arms, engine adaptors, alloy axles, diff ratios, gear sets, dual case adaptors and the list goes on!
Why do you want a dual Cab???? That is my only Question????
Rangies are good but to get them as modified as much as you can a Lux will cost $$$$
Zuki's are cheap but they are a lot weaker, There is a reason why all the Spookie owners end up going Hilux diffs.
Bang for $$$ you can't go wrong with a Lux!
It also depends on what you want to do as to how much you pay!
If you want a lux that is good and capable offroad then buy one for say 6k and use the other 4k to put in a Locker, gearset or twin cases and longfields!

Ability to seat more than two, that's pretty high up on my priority list. The rangie and suzi (just) can do that comfortably as well.
I know it'll be open for a panel beatin up the back/ sides but that's part of the charm, at least it'll look used
Decent extra cabs are few and far between but the dicky seats in the back would do if I could find one with 'em.

It's on Ebay this week with a reserve of 16000. I may end up keeping it as i'm losing heaps at that price and definatly won't drop any lower. Couple of people interested so far so we'll see how it goes.
I voted hilux, give the rangie a miss, and although zooks are cool, specially longies... they're just a bit small. I reckon you can't go wrong with a lux, everything has been done to them, so you don't need to make mistakes, just do what you see works... and drive the bastard !! My .02c

I was gonna put a 4th option on the poll...
" Put fluffy dice and a "have a nice day" spare wheel cover on my feroza and JUST MALL IT "
Wasn't sure how many would vote for that but

For 10 grand you will buy a late 70s early 80s Rangie with the lot.
A guy in our club just paid 8 for an 83 4door with maxi drives front and rear and a full laminated maxi drive front housing. 4.4 Leyland V8 with twin LP Gas mixers on 35 muds.
For 10G you wont get much in the way of a dual cab Hilux. And mods are not realy that cheap for them unless you can do all the work yourself. And all the engine combinations they run as stock are hopeless.
The Zook would be ok if you only want a fun rig that you can thrash but they are small and to thrash them and daily drive them is a huge job on its own.

Bubs are you making and selling all these now because if you can do all that for those prices i might send the other lux i have over to you.

I would go the rangie (of course) because they are very cheap and by the time you spent $10000 you would have one very capable rig that you are still able to get out on the road and drive at 120kph all day.
For an all round machine the rangie is the best option as long as you dont want to run bigger than 35in tyres.

Dual case alone for a hilux-
Adapter-$995 Marks 4wd adapters
Second case-$250 if you can find one that cheap
Extend front tailshaft-$120-$150
Shorten rear shaft-$80-$100
Custom Crossmember to suit-$300
Exhast mods if deisel-$80-$100
Labour for Install-$500
Total= min $2325
These are all realistic prices based on someone who can not undertake this kind of work themselves.
Anyone who says they can do a duel case installed for $1000 total is a fool. I can prob do it as cheap as anyone on this board and i doubt i could do it for under $1000. And thats importing the adapter myself.

my price was based on adaptor alone

Probably need to buy bubs rig for 4k then spend 5.5 on beer and 500 on a tralier to move it all. LCMP weekend would be the perfect forum for 5k worth of ale I reckon

Where's the "NONE OF THE ABOVE" selection ???????
I'm with Bogged,Ozy 1, and Wendle on this, buy the GQ, you'll be miles in front and happier in the longrun..... but if I gotta vote then its the rangie cos NOTHING beats a V8 !!

Hold the phone! There is an MQ for sale here for $1750.
That leaves you $8250 for beer and hookers!
