Engine choices.

I have now decided that i want to get a Gq patrol but i am so unsure of the fuel choice. Given the price of fuel nowadays, the diesel that i always wanted seems to be now, like a petrol very expensive to run. Since the price of gas is so cheap, is it more realistic to go a duel fuel over the diesel? What consuption do you get from a petrol 4.5L on gas and normal fuel, and does it really make it all that much cheaper?

Depends what you want and your plans with it.

High kms or low kms weekender or tourer.

Ask yourself what your plans are

engine choices for a GQ are
4.2 petrol not 4.5
4.2 diesel some turbo some not
3L petrol (vl motor)

Personally i would go the 4.2 reliabilty i like diesel more than petrol just my opionion mainly for torque and the ability to do water crossing and not worrying about water getting into the dizzy.

Do you intend to go touring in it, where LPG wont be available, or only petrol is available, which both fuels (petrol/diesel - but diesel is easier to find on farms etc) will be expensive in the middle of nowhere.

what would you expect from a large petrol donk in a large car ;)

Most of the time it will be my daily commuter, driving sixty or so kms a day. Most of the off road i do are just short day trips with two weeks away in the Snowy Mountains. I dont have plans to do long interstate trips, at the moment. I do realise they are big heavy cars, with a thirst to boot. It is just i thuoght it may have been a little cheaper to run on LPG.

personally on a large vehicle like this fuel economy wouldnt be high on my list.

Diesel still can be expensive which it is at the moment but its how drive it a litre of diesel will go further than petrol however like i said wouldnt be my choosing factor if you just want something to do short trips in or not hard stuff is the patrol really for you?

Sorry, my last post was vague. I currently only do shorter trips, due mainly to the fact that a Sierra is a) not a freeway car in any way and b) i just cant fit a fridge, gear, a missus and a dog in the back. I was looking at the SWB model, it is still a hell of a lot larger than the Sierra, but not to large around town.

you drive a zook and you want to get a patrol but worried bout fuel prices?
bad choice of car to be worried about fuel.
id probably go the diesel as its more readily available and you can use bio which is a bit cheaper.
i dont know current prices but when i filled up the paj last it cost me $1.28 per liter for b100 and the b20 was $1.18

No, i am not worried about fuel prices really. I was just inquiring as to whether it was worth getting a duel fuel over a diesel. But you all seem to say diesel, noone said anything about petrol, so that seems to be the positive concensus!

If its going to spend all its time in the city, and never do distance travel, i'd consider LPG and .45cents compared to $1.45...

around town a N/A diesel will drive ya mad unless you have patience...

if you are lookin to go anywhere that there is a chance of no LPG go the diesel, carrying 3 x 20l jerry's to fill the huge 45l(ish) petrol tank on a proper high country trip takes up alotta room
