That looks so natural to be sitting in that bay....351 C..awesome engine. I wish that the Ford V8 conversion was as popular in the GQ's but alas it seems not to be.

It's not that popular in the mq either,at least not in WA. Seems most are holden motors over here. I spose it is easier as the clevo is a big donk compared 2 the holden or chev.

The GQ's have a weird firewall shape so that be a hassle for the large motors such as a cleveland. Maybe the MK's were simpler.

i think you will find the reason ppl go to chev and holden is the location of the dissy. the dissy is at the rear of the motor behind the carbi on the chev and holdens where as its at the front on the ford motors.....

wats the first thing thats going to happen the moment you touch mud or water? the radiator fan will throw water all over the dissy or the water bow wave will go all over it and you are dead in motion.

and ill think you will find also that the 350 chev and 308 holden are of very similar physical size to the 302 and 351.
its only when you go to the big block the size difference is large.....

That's why you use a blind in mud and water especially with petrol engines.

the water still comes up between the radiator and the motor and hits the fan and throws it everywhere.....

the blind just stops the rush from hitting the motor front on.

Not in my experience and I have been through some pretty deep fast flowing South Island rivers - water coming in through the fresh air inlet and out the air vents at floor level, water running along the bottom of the side windows, being pushed sideways by the current ....! The P40 distributor is mounted quite low on the side of the engine and has not faltered (touch wood) yet. I am often surprised at how dry the engine remains when using a blind. I think air must be trapped under the bonnet. On wide crossings this pocket would probably gradually escape, but my crossings are seldom more than 30-40m across. I try to cross angled slightly downstream and keep up a steady momentum pushing a small bow wave in front which seems to help the creation of the air pocket.

My avatar shows an exception as I had to go upstream first, directly into a strong current, to avoid an abandoned ute in the middle of the ford and then turn across and down. A bit scary as I did not have a snorkel fitted at the time. Had a rescue vehicle already in position on the other side though and the crossing was not that wide.

But I do agree - the more you can shield and protect your electrics the better.
