Oil pressure warning light question 95 2.8 Ln106

Hi chaps,
I have been lurking for some time, and have finally gotten a 95 ln106 dc 2.8d hilux. 235 k

The previous owner had not looked after it that well. It had peterol oil in it, and it was like soft honey.
I put some diesel oil in it, and ran about 40k, and dropped it that day, and then did 200k on the next, and am about to change it again, all in 14 days.
the question I have is this.

The oil light takes about 3-4 seconds to go out when I first start it, some times its been as long as 5 seconds for the light to go out. There is no noise of low oil pressure like its not got pressure at all when this happens.

I am wondering if oil is bleeding back out of the gallery that the oil press switch is feeding from. I have noticed that when I change the filter, oil drains out of the outer area of where the filter goes, *( yes I know some will leak out when removing the filter  )*. I use a margarine container under it, and it catches the oil nicely, but it continues to drain for some time. Going by memory it looks like there is a ballvalve set up in there that is what is draining back.

Checked the oil yesterday, and its mostly clear, with only a fleck of black discolouration in it, so I might run it a little longer till it colours up.

Oil i have been using is the BP Vanellus 15 40.

There is no smoke out the back, apart from a little diesel black, as I got the injectors serviced, and have done a whole host of other stuff on it too.

Cheers

A hilux that DOESNT blacken up its oil after 3 revolutions!!!

FWIW, my 92 lux with 304,000 takes a few secs to turn the oil light off on a cold canberra morning, but thats to be expected, and a light blip of the throttle will kill it instantly.

Yeah, its surprising what a few quick oil changes will do.
I call it cheap insurance ;).

When the vehicle has been run during the day, the light only takes 1-2 seconds to come off. Its usually after its been sitting for a day or more that the light takes alittle longer than im used to to go out.
Ive always had oil pressure guages, not idiot lights, might look into getting a vdo elec guage to monitor its internals.

The light will take a little while to go out up to 5 sec

I put a oil pressure gauge on mine when i had it starting up when cold and did take a little bit for the neddle to move

Its all good nothing to be concerned bout and my engine was rebuilt 50k ago

Thanks Bastard and Bogan,
Appreciate your replies. I was a little paranoid after discovering the sludge, er oil that was residing in the sump.
Amazing how after 3 oil changes in a week, how much less muck came out the exhaust when giving it a blip. Even after doing the injectors it still blew black muck out the exhaust.
Its nice and normal now.

Filled up yesterday, had done 340kms, took 34lts, I pushed it further than the last fill, and it took 36 up the filler neck.
Either way for 120k country, and the rest in the city with passengers and ac going, im very happy.
