Hilux fuel consumption

Last time I bought a 4x4, fuel consumption was not a real issue – an extra $20 a week for a bigger truck.
Now days it needs to be taken into consideration – big time!
My beach 4x4 runs a Toyota 4lt diesel motor but I'm considering going to a smaller truck.
Can anyone tell me what they get in Kilometres per litre from 2.8 or 3lt Hilux (is there much difference?)
What about turbo V non turbo – much difference?
I know driving habits and location play a big part in it but I’m talking your best K per L.
