Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I took the car out last night and the power steering line burst. :(

It burst at the join where the rubber hose joins some of kind of metal fastener before it goes into the steering box. It looks like it is was one piece. The hose pulled out of the metal cylinder by the looks of things.

What is the best way to fix or replace this?

How much would this peice cost to replace?

Does anyone have a spare line they want to sell me? Im in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

I would get one made using the original fittings, unless you can get a new one cheap.

Lots of places can make hoses for you that way, unfortunately I can't recommend on in Melbourne but you will find them in most industrial areas.

Thanks mate. I was thinking about taking it to pirtek tomorrow and getting a new line made up. I imagine they could just cut the rubber section off and attach a braided piece to ensure that it wouldnt happen again.

The car was damn heavy driving back out of the bush and 80 kms home.

I hope your power steering pump is okay. Some types are not meant to be run without fluid.

I hope so too. I took the belt off as soon as i got up the hill where it broke.

Ill have to wait and see I guess.

Pirtek will make up a new one using some of your old fittings for $140, I just had mine done 1 1/2 weeks ago, now thats better than the price Nissan will charge you and you will get a better warranty as well, should only take them about 1 hour to do.

Hall 4x4 in Malvern st Bayswater have change over ones .and his prices are pretty good for mst GQ parts as well

just looked at my reciepts and it was $145 thats with a new rubder hydralic hose fitted and new fittings from memory no waiting he has them instock cause its a common problem

Thanks mate, Ill get Mum to go around there tomorrow, I work in the city . Im in bayswater so its close by.

I paid $4.50 per fitting on the end and around $30per metre or thereabouts of hose when i blew mine. the fittings I grabbed a spare incase it ever happened again.

nissan wanted $300ish for the same hoses that cost me $45

I was thinking approximately fifty bucks, but the last time I had this done the hose was only about 40cm long; I am not sure how long yours is.

Thanks guys, Dad took it to a power steering place today and they replaced the broken side and the side not broken just in case it was getting old. It cost $150. Ill put it back in tonight and hopefully my power steering pump works okay still.

Good to see that you have it all sorted, don't forget to bleed the system to get the air out. fluid just goes all frothy otherwise.

Incidently, anyone ever tried to repair the pully bearing on the power steer pump on the same vehicle. (MK SD33T) Mine has collasped and am having trouble getting a new bearing. Reco or new units available but very expensive.

Any idears or pointers in Sydney appreciated.
