60/80 series dualcab conversions..

Hey guys, been surfin your forum for about 3 or 4 months now, but today i decided to register to see if some of ya's can help me... im genuinly on the market for a 1989 onwards dualcab lux.. want 106 body and 2.8 deisel.. looking to spend upto 15000.. then within the next 2 years look at either supra or v8 conversion, but thats another story.. then today i had an idea.. why not buy an 80 series 4.5 petrol and get it choped off just behind the back seats and a 3 or 4 foot alluminium tray added.. .. this is where you guys come into it, anyone done this?? or got any ideas what other mods apart from to the body is needed, or a rough price? or even better who to get it done by??

started out as a pristine 1984 "grandpa's special" wagon. perfect condition, very comfortable and a great ride.
had a lot of fun in it, and then eventually decided I would prefer a ute.... in my case a single cab (extra cab if you wish!!). I chose single cab cause I wanted a more versatile vehicle for comps and hard wheeling. Obviously you want the dual cab for the people carrying capacity, and the use of an open tray.
for the cost of selling my truck and buying a ute, versus the cost of a conversion, it made a LOT more sense to simply chop the back off!! and in your case, you could get an 80 series that has been in a rear end smash for a really good price. grab a copy of "just 4wd's" to scan the going prices.
and as for cost.... well I have heard of people spending up and over $5g for a complete job..... but so far, I have done it very much on the cheap, getting different people to help with different things. Dunno about a ball park price.... I really couldn't say..... I will work something out for you after, and send you a PM

Have a look at pickles.com for suitable 80's.
You could do anything from a HQ tunna ontop to a cut and shut.
Have a search under slee offroad aswell.(usa)

thanks 4 the replys fellas.. dan, nice rig dude.. looks farkin sick.. pretty sure im set on a dualcab.. whats the deal with getin them registered?? any troubles with an engineers cert??
