2.8 engine help needed

G'Day guys,
I have a question about the 2.8 diesel intercooled, this one actaully being in a DELICA.
I am going to struggle to explain what this piece of componentry is, but here goes!
It is a small valve that sits in a cast casing, and it has coolant run through it. It is down low on the passenger side of the engine, and has a lever with a big spring above it, and that lever sits against the plate that the throttle cable comes in on. This valve has a circlip holding it down into the cast casing, and it sits in the vertical position.
The problem my friend is having, is that this valve is leaking coolant. I know this is a very slap hazard description, but can someone tell me what this and if it is easy to replace?!?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers, Dan

NFI, really!

Does it have any tubes connecting it to the EGR valve? I'm thinking it could be something to do with emission control? EGR is only supposed to work at part throttle and warm engine...

Yeah its a bit tricky, especially with a description like that!!

Thanks for your reply though, but I am not sure what this EGR you speak of is. But yes, it has coolant running to it, and it looks like that perhaps when the coolant reaches a certain temp, this valve may push up against this spring loaded lever, activating something.

Cheers, Dan

Some form of idle-up for cold running? Like an auto-choke on a carby?

Hi Dan
I own a 1999 Deli.
For me it sound taht this part is next to dieselpump. I know there is a connection to the cooling system of the engine. This valve controls the dieselpump in relation of the enginetemperature. Anyway a pic would be very helpfull.

Kanis, thankyou, that sounds exactly what it is, down near the pump. Can get a pic during the week.

I've just had a look at mine dan,

no luck here either though, there's nothing like that on my 4m40. definately suggest trying the delica forum, it's probably Jap emission equipment, and those delica guys like finding ways around that stuff from what I've seen ;)
Our 4m40s are missing a few things like that.
