Rim measurements

Post by Bentzook »

Just ripped this off E-bay

Q: G'day, here is your first dumb question: If the rim width is 7 inches (15x7) doesn't that mean 179mm not 200mm? And if it is 179mm width then if the backspace is 95mm then the offset is positive 6? No? Sorry if I have confused things.

A: Hi . I will answer this question as it's the first one and I'm having a good day:-) So I will try to be nice. If you check the item description and check the picture with the wheel terminology on it, you will notice that the rim width is actually measured from inside the flange, hence the measurement of 7inches. This is the width of tyre that will fit this rim. The width from the Outside flange to outside flange, which is the entire width of the rim,(not the tyre), is 200mm, or nearly 8inches. If a rim is stated as being 7, 8 or 10inches wide, that is the width of tyre that will fit the rim, if you check the actual width it will be wider then what it is stated at. I don't know why they do this but they do! I hope this helps. Regards Pete.

I think this thinking is all crap :finger:

I think he's basically correct here. The rest? He just can't explain anything any better than you can. :finger:
