when i lock my hubs and pot it into 4wd i get a loud clunking noise from the front end. it only does it when the hubs are locked.
it starts when i get up to about 10k then goes clunk clunk clunk ect ect...
i have no idea what it is.
iv pulled apart the drivers side to check the cv, ect... but it all looked fine, and now i will try the drivers side.
any ideas on what it could be?

does it happen whenever it's locked in?
4-hi? 4-lo?
under load or just cruising down a track?
could be a damaged free wheeling hub.
Could be a Cv
beaut part about MQs is they're so basic

Is this happening in a straight line or when you are turning?

It's a problem with the way your free wheeling hubs are set up, I had the same problem after we rebuilt the front end. You need to pull it apart, check it and then reassemble carefully. You might find the selector hard or sloppy to turn rather than the right amount of resistance, know what I mean? Have you had the hubs apart at all recently?

i had a similar problem with my GQ, the gears inside the hub werent meshing right and it was jumping out of 4wd, i put another hub on and the problem is now gone, it was very annoying trying to drive the car without a rear tailshaft in

I didn't need another hub myself, just pulled it down and made sure it went back together properly and it has been okay ever since. My other side one was jammed solid, had to fix it too!

well i did the same thing, pulled everyone out and repacked the cv etc, but i could see nice shiny markings on the hub and the gear bit on the stub axle where it looked like it was meshing right.

look at your front tail shaft as well could be the uni joints

Do you have a DC front shaft, these can make similar clunk noise when they are failing.
Check the front shaft uni joints and DC if its there for binding. Grease them up and see how it goes, if its still there remove shaft and see if they are stiff.
Layto....
