Promlem w/ diesel-1kz-t engine

check your oil level. if the oil is over full, once the engine warms up it will suck atomised/dropletised oil through the crankcase breather, in the inlet, through the turbo, then the engine starts to over rev.


also is there a cold start over-inject thermostat setup on the fuel pump (assuming mechanical pump, no electronics as you have not specified 1KZ-T*E*), and if so is it plumbed correctly to have hot coolant flowing through it - if not the cold start will always run and once the motor starts to warm up it will over rev although usually not as high as 3000rpm.

the only other thing I can think it would be is a stuck throttle but you say if you cut the engine and cold restart it goes ok so unlikely.

is there any smoke or abnormal noise associated with the over-revving?

Correct; fuel injection is non electronic. No unusual noises and no smoke!
Oil is just fine. Engine idles fine(750)and accelerates normally up to 2000-2200,but after that it will self accellerate up to 35-3600rpm and remain there. If however,I swich the engine off;even for a split second,it will decellerate and idle.

The "cold start over inject thermostat" I did not now about, mabye the fault lies there? However I am not familiar with it!

Could you mabye explain how I can check it out?

if it returns to idle after switching off then the problem is not in the cold start circuit (if fitted).

sounds to me like it just has a sticking governer spindle or accelerator cable- when you operate the go pedal, does the spindle rotate smootly from the idle stop to the full throttle stop? does it have a throttle butterfly and does it use the differential pressure across the throttle butterfly to manage injection volume or does the throttle just operate the fuel pump directly?

sounds very mysterious!

Mysterious indeed!
The throttle operates the injection directly; smooth as can be.
The turbine kicks in at about 2000rpm, mabye it is causing this problem some how?? What do you think? I would really hate to take the pump to a workshop if the problem is not there? I have explained the problem at some workshops; they all say the same thing: take the pump apart and mabye they will find the cause!! :roll:

ah!

does your fuel pump have a diaphragm assembly on top, with an adjuster nut on the very top and a thin air line from the top of the diaphragm assembly to the inlet manifold? (this is the boost compensator). there is a 'rod' that runs down from the diaphragm into the pump body, and the vertical position of the rod (relative to the amount of boost) changes the amount of fuel that is injected for a given throttle opening. it's possible that this rod may be sticking down after the boost starts up? to test, disconnect the hose that runs from the plenum/manifold to the boost compensator, and rev up again - see if the same thing happens.

Well tried that one! Makes no diff. In fact power power does not seem to decrease at all :?: Still it is strange that all is good while the engine is running cold!As it warms up, decelleration slows down untill it reaches a point where it starts self accellerating.
One thing I did not mention before: The engine was on the floor for about 1 year. I did blend two stroke oil in the diesel,to help lubricate the pump(1%),but that has not helped either.

something crazy is going on!

would be so much easier if I could see it.

try disconnecting the crankcase breather just to eliminate the oil burning possibility.

otherwise without seeing it, I am just about out of ideas!

could you possibly send me a couple of photos of the pump, from the top and side?
