v6 hilux cooling

A few weeks ago i was asking about engine driven fans, well i have purchased mine from marks and fitted it, been reasonably happy with it. when out just reasonable 4wding (few hills, some slow stuff) it got a bit warm still but no big deal, tonight when i was out shooting (slow work for a long period of time) it got hot enough to boil with this fan. i wonder if it has something to do with the thermostat, the radiator is a 4 core cruiser radiator HJ75 series. Ne help would be greatly appreciated as i am getting sick of this cooling issue>>>> Thanx in advance

are you using a fan shroud?, otherwise you'll just be recirculating the hot air from the engine bay. I've got a 81degree thermostat in mine , think the standard is @ 91.

Which V6 motor are you using?
Have you bled the cooling system properly? Are you using coolant or water? What sort of coolant?

thats what it sounds like to me to. if you have a shroud it has to many gaps around it. and drop your thermostat to 81 degrees.

pull the thermostat out, try it then, should see huge difference in temp, then if that fix's it go with the 81 thermostat, got coomodore ss radiotor in front of 308, works treat, hot or cold, never gets over 90 degrees,..
Have you checked the timing recently, mine kept cooking, was out of time, re timed it and made massive diff, good luck

thanx for the replies guys, that thermostat sounds the go, no i dont have a fan shroud i will have to fabricate one for it. what temp in degrees celcius roughly do u think that v6 should be running at, because i am going to put a gauge on it and wanted a rough idea tahnx!

the commodores run somewhere between 80 to 94 degrees depending on thermostat, don't let them get over 105 as thats when they will start to damage themselfs.

hey crushu
It is a vp v6, the cooling system has not been bled yet, as i have not changed the coolant since i have owned it

ok, vp v6 needs a 135kpa cap, and a reservoir bottle above the height of the thermostat housing.
you will need v series coolant, at a ratio of 50% water/coolant. coolant transfers less heat than water, so higher concentrations of coolant will transfer less heat, and can become corrosive. Less coolant will cause the water to boil.
Coolant must be changed every 2.5 years, regardless of km's.
if all this is correct, bleed the cooling system with a high filler point on the rad cap, and open the bleeder.

thanx for that crushu, do u know if i can get a cap with that pressure rating, for the HJ75 radiator??

toyota's run the little toy sized caps, don't they? the 135kpa cap for a commodore will fit any standard size radiator neck (the bigger size) but i don't know if there is one to suit the little radiator neck.
call bursons and see if there is one available.

i have a question to the person who said about the 81 degree thermostat, thanx for the info to by the way, i am goin to try that. but what does this do to the temperature sender to the ECU, because i believe that the temp is one of the main inputs to the ECU, and i was told that if the engine runs colder, the ECU would be trying to put slightly more fuel in to get up to it operating temp. My question is have u experienced ne problems of economy like this, while on this subject iwas wondering if any one would be kind enough to share what sorta economy they r getting from their v6's
cheers guys.............
