Hi Guys, I bought a dual fuel GQ a few weeks ago and lately the petrol system is giving me trouble. When I flick it over to petrol it will run for a short while then start acting like it has no fuel. The time it runs for after the switch is flicked varies but eventually it will splutter and die. Sometimes it happens within a minute sometimes it take 5 or 10.

I changed the fuel filter and that didnt help anything. When it cuts out I quickly check the fuel filter and it is full so I imagine there is a blockage in the carby.

What would be the best way to fix this problem? Are these carbies hard to rebuild?

Is there a factory EFI conversion solution available which is cheap and easy?

Should I convert to straight gas?

Ugh, don't convert to straight gas.

There are a few things that could be causing it and I'm not an expert by any means, but my first thought is that you need to give the carby a good clean-up. It might not even need an actual rebuild. Gunked up carbies are common on TB42s even on straight petrol.

EFI isn't worth fitting to a dual fuel car because you won't want to run on petrol very often due to cost. There is factory EFI, apparently about $800 for all the necessary bits from a wrecker.

First step would be to look the carby over without spending any $$ at all, and give it a good clean.

Thanks mate, hopefully it is an easy fix. Ill take the carby off on the weekend and give it a clean out.

Once I get that sorted Ill get the gas system retuned. It runs like crap in comparison to petrol and has flat spots everywhere. Its definately not right.
