Hi guys i was going to price up some steel to make sliders on the weekend, just need to know:
What thickness of steel (box, RHS) should i use
What outside dimensions should the box be (side width) [square or rectangle]
Are there different grades of steel i should ask for
Does anyone know of a cheap place or can get cheap steel themselves
Sorry for the noob questions but this is the first bar work i have done
Info appreciated
Want to connect them like Suzukiboy in this post:

But with another brace from the top of the chassis bracket to the square tube; like DroopyPete suggested.
What thickness of plate would you recommend to use on the U shaped clamp part

We haven't made them before but NEvyn and I are starting to plan and price.
Metalcorp provided the below prices on the materials we want to use.
Hi there,
According to what you are after i have worked out the following:
Flat 75x5mm x 6mtr lng $36.00 incl gst
Rhs 75x75x5mm ptd x 8 mtr lng $200 incl gst
065nb pipe (76.1 OD) x3.2mm x 6.5 mtrs $ 125.00
All the above lngs incl gst and we only sell them by the lngs.

However, we are trying to find somewhere we can get offcuts.
Most of what we need can come from here, except for the large RHS bits,

i used 40nb medium wall, which is about 3.4mm thickness and OD of around 48.
thats good enough. No need to make them so heavy, not like you're going to lift the hole car off the ground on one of them.

My bodgy backyard ones are about 2-3mm thickness, and have copped a good beating without so much as a dent. Its the support you give it to the chassis thats really important, so it doesn't flex into the body.

a local metal fab shop may be able to help with this

about 4mm. I used blue, not galvanized.

square 50 x 50

Marshall Steel in burleigh on the Goldie

6mm plate, 50 - 75mm width.
We made ours using plate to produce a box around the chassis, with box section mounting to a box section length under the sill, with 48OD tubing (as Yankee Dave suggested) to the outside.
