How to prevent another theft!!

Some SOB stole my passenger's side mirror (actually, the person unscrewed the door bracket, and removed the arm, mirror, all the bolts)

I'm going to need to buy a new "unit" and probably a pair, but if I were a smart chap into the art of aquisition - I'd steal a piece of junk in hopes it gets replaced with a spankin' new version.

SO - suggestions to keep it from going walk-about are welcome (or if anyone knows a good source for a passenger's side mirron from a 1981 BJ42)

One alternative was to look for those huge mirrors you find on big-rigs - how to install, better yet - where would you get a nice pair?

anti theft screws/bolts?

the ones you can do up but need a welder to get undone again

or the type you need a special tool to get undone. go see a fasteners retailer for some ideas

if the bolt goes through to the inside of the door, put a hole through the end of the bolt, and when its done up, reach inside and put a split pin/retainer clip through it or wire it up

Although a pain the @rse, just ring around a few wreckers and try to get you hands on one that way, you should be able to track down something that you like even if you have to purchase a pair.

You can use the the type of screws as mentioned you should be able to find something like this at Bunnings, they usually are part of the locks you put on windows etc, so finding replacements shouldnt be a problem.

I think just cop it on the chin there is not much else you can do, if these pricks want something back enough they will get it eventualy.

Not much help, but thats how it is.

Cheers

Probably the best way is have a blue heeler sleeping in the passenger side with the window down low enough to grab a mouth full of thief…. Failing the impracticalities of that, TORX style screws heads [or similar] will slow them down. If they really want it they will get it if given the chance [unfortunately].
