well since its only 5th id say as you suspect synchro is worn

if all are stiff could be incorrect oil.

just odd to me as it dose slip in without a grind at a slower speed when ya find it but 70ks and faster and it tends to grind,

one thing i did forget is it only grinds when i take my foot off the clutch ,

when ya put foot on clutch slip into gear its all good but soon as the foot comes off thats it it grinds

Ok well thats different

Could be solecter box is worn and its not pushing it all the way into 5th. Im told there are plastic bushes in the selector box that can be replaced to fix this problem, but they are a pain to get at (impossible?) without dropping the box.

I too had this problem a few years back, although I could sometimes get it in for a while... but then it would just pop out when you hit a bump or something similar.

Was told it was the 5th gear syncro as it's not really a 5th gear... it's more of an overdrive kinda gear. From what I was told by a few people, the 5speed box is the same as the 4 speed but with the fairy overdrive(5th gear) The 5th gear is something that should only be used for highway use, not around town under 80km/h... I know that with mine, it sounds like it wants to go to 5th, but apparently thats how the 4speed sounds at same speeds.
I'M NO MECHANIC, SO CORRECT ME IF THAT'S WRONG, JUST A BIT OF INFO I WAS FED ABOUT IT ALL.

Anyway, got that syncro fixed and Bob's ya auntie... all good.

5th is a weak gear on early cruisers as it was just an add on to the 4pds i would say you wil need new bearings put in it as 5th gear just hangs out the back inbetween the gearsbox and transfer.

arent the 80 and 100series cruiser boxes the same? and 5th gear is put out the back as its an overdrive and cannot be driven in the same maner as 1st to 4th.
