80x h150 gearbox into a 75x cab chassis

i am putting a 80x h150 gearbox and transfer into my hzj75x cab chassis, i no this swap has been done before and have a few questions that hopefully can be answered by others who have done this conversion.

with the gearbox crossmember what type to use, does the original crossmember work or do i need one form a 80x. and do you cut the original gearbox mounts of the chassis and move them back

for the shifteres does a fzj 75x petrol gearbox cover do the job and cover up the holes in floor or does mods have to be done the original floor.

i no the front tailshaft has to be lengthened and rear shortned, are there any other small problems that i amy need to be aware of.

does the fuel tank have to be removed i measured it up and there is about 30mm clearance from back of box to the chassis cross member

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Amate done one and he used the full set up from a FZJ75 ( HF151 Box ) the new X-member needed remounting and the tube chassis x-memeber behind the original box had to get cut out and a new made and fitted further back to clear the longer gearbox/transfer. The shifter did come up throught the original holes in the floor, but keep in mind the the 80 box and transfer would need all the FZJ75 shifter's and mechanisms fitted.

I agree with what Wally said. I am also planning to fit an H150f from an 80 series into a 75 pick up behind a 1HDT. This is what I found. The tubular crossmember has to be moved or replaced. Depending on how close the fuel tank is, the crossmember can either be rotated back or replaced altogether.

The 80 series gearbox shifter is fine where it is located, but the transfer shifter is located to far aft for a 75 series. This is a parts list to convert an 80 series part time transfer to a 75/78 series style shifter:

36360-60320 1 transfer lever shift lever

36327-60100 1 transfer shift lever lateral shaft

36346-60011 1 bracket, transfer control shift lever retainer

91651-61040 3 bolts for transfer control bracket

90253-13017 2 bushing, transfer control bracket

36308-60210 1 transfer shift control rod

36362-60030 1 transfer case shift lever

36331-60020 1 transfer lever shift boot

A transfer from a petrol FZJ75 is indeed the better unit to use, but the parts above, other than the shift lever itself, are not extremely costly.

i fitted the box into my 75x yesterday.
the box went straight in, had approx 25 mm from back of transfer to the tube chassis member near the tank. my 75x is a late model so i didn't have to re-locate the crossmember.

mods i have found.

i have purchased the transfer linkages from a 79x and they will wotk for the transfer ( same parts a beanz mentioned toyota wanted $500 in parts)

have to use a 79x gearbox crossmember and oxy my mounts of the chassis and re-locate them back

had rear tailshaft shortned and front legnenthed.

only other drama i have is shifters do not come up through floor, i either have to track one down from a fzj 75 or i shall modify my existing.

as soon as it is finished i shall keep a up date.

That is good news, Tobie. Can you provide me with some distance measurements? For instance, distance from tubular crossmember to original gearbox crossmember. What year is your 75? By gearbox crossmember, are you referring to the rubber mount?
