Any one here looking to fit coil pack ignition? I'll be bringing in some ford edis ignition modules from the states soon - if anyone wants some, speak up now :lol: .

( not for the electrically challanged )

I've sent a few emails off to various places - looking around $30 - $50 (us$) for the edis6 modules, (not confirmed) also depends on quantity - this is for used untested modules. I rekon i can get better pricing though - especially on the 4 and 8 cyl units.

Dave - what controller are you looking to use to drive it ?

Megasquirt II v3 if all the smaller bits come together. Bit iffy on the programming side of it though. Having said that once you jump in the deep end you have to learn to swim.

I'm interested in a 4 cylinder module, if it can be driven by Megasquirt II. When do you expect this to happen?

Soon, but no real hurry. I've got all the gear ready to go except the module - Am waiting for replies from sent emails to confirm.

You guys running MS11 - Why not use the holden/GM DIS stuff? - its suported (i think :? ). heaps easier to get the modules then (local). I'm stuck with MS1 and the overseas ford stuff :cry:

With the EDIS modules can you run an EDIS8 on a 4 or 6 cyl by only using the coils required?

No - you need the matching edis module - as they are pre-programmed to suit.

I'll keep everyone informed when I get some info and price and availability.

Also - for the peeps who don't want to go the full ecu - This looks good

Ok - just got a better idea on pricing.

Edis 4 - $25.00 (easy to get, confirmed price)

Edis 6 & 8 - is going to depend on quantity but allow around $50 (harder to get)

prices are us$ and include plug with a bit of loom and freight.

I'm going to get a few units of each in, hopefully i don't get ripped off :)

- *** these are untested units pulled off cars in junkyards. NO GARANTEE****

You'll need -
- 35 tooth crank timing wheel - EL? - AU ford
- VR sensor for above
- coil pack to suit -
- ecu controller (megasquirt) or for spark only - megajolt (see picasso link above
- laptop or computer with a serial port - for setting up.

when you can get the sensor, get it with the plug and a bit of cable hanging out. The timing wheel needs mounting to the crank pully.

Its a bit of mucking around - but well worth it. The MS ecu will give you duel 12X12 spark tables mapped to rpm and manifold vacuum / boost. Flick a switch and go from petrol to lpg tables on the run. Also will do knock sensing and auto retard :D I'm still trying to get my head around it all :? but it looks a good thing. A lot more water friendly than a dizzi setup.

Downside is - if it poos itself, no spare modules in aus - but you can always refit a standard dizzi to get going again.

Sorry dave, :oops: I'll be getting 9 x edis4, 2 x edis8 and only 1 x edis6 (which i need) sent over.

This is all he had in stock - but more 8's and 6's will be comming. (just don't know when). I've sent an email to ask when he expects the 6's, but due to the time difference - should hear tomorrow.

Payment - when (or if) i actually get them - direct bank, chq or cash is cool. I can ship these Aus wide via Toll airbag for $12.00 + the cost of the unit.

I'm not making any $$ out of these - but if I have any left overs, i'll be flogging 'em off as complete kits on ebay and elsewere. (after a few weeks or so)

anyway post up if you want one - first in is first in

scott = 1 x edis4 ?
dave = 2 x edis6 when in ?
tom = 1 x edis8 ?
fool injected = ?

So Tom and Harry, what will you be using to drive the edis and where are you sourcing the components ?

Nick.

Hi Nick,

I have just aquired a new project vehicle (80 2dr RR).
Current plan is to megasquirt it (although plans tend to change).

Cool, with the edis where is the ignition triggered from ? and what parts locally can you use or is there some fabrication required.

All that you need to fab up - is the timing wheel to the harmonic balancer + the bracket for the sensor. I got these from a ford wreckers for $35. They came off a EL ford ( I think). I'll post up some pics tonight of what i have done so far.

This is what I have done so far (nothing too exciting )
The cog is held by three screws by friction only, this is so i can still rotate the gear to set the correct base timing (10dg btdc - with ecu disconnected). Once it's set I'll pin it properly so it can never move.

Hi all - the modules turned up. Final pricing is,

4cyl $25 us = $35 aus
8cyl $30 us = $41 aus
Toll priority freight (signiture required) = $12.00 except NT

shoot me an PM with your email address and I'll send a paypal invoice - or let me know if you want to pickup. I'm in Mordialloc Melbourne.

Simon.

Not me - but I've been unemployed, so I've got a minor cash flow crisis. :P

Actually, I need to transfer rego to SA, and an aftermarket EFI system is a no-no. So I'll go stock Magna EFI to begin with, and look at Megasquirting later.

In the mean time, if anybody wants a 4 cylinder EDIS module, send me a PM. ;)
