Will the 2.8 turbo diesel manifold bolt up to the 3 litre (RB30) petrol motor....or is it just better to get hold of VL dunnydoor head and turbo assembly ...if I can source one that is ????

Manifold wont fit,
I did this to my GQ a while back usiing VL turbo gear. You wont need the head either as there is no difference.
The standard turbo VL manifolds are only bringing about 150bucks on ebay. Keep your boost under 10spi with premium and a reasonable intercooler and the donk will last forever, trust me i did a couple in 1996 and they are still getting around.

Thanks for that...now another question....I have a carby RB30...does the fuel injection stuff etc bolt onto my existing head ....or do i still hafta change it ...OR...can i turbo my carby etc. ??

Do a search as i have put heeeeps of info on this forum regarding the conversion.
your head is fine leave it on. Your cam is good too better than a turbo one for your application.
find a smashed VL get engine loom dizzy inlet manifold , airflow meter and computer, get it running with the non turbo computer and naturally aspirated injectors that way its only a small project, but still give you worthwhile gains. That way your truck isnt off the road for more than a weekend. Once you fit your intercooler and save up for :turbo, turbo injectors, turbo computer and exhaust its just a matter of plugging shit in and bolting stuff up. Fuel pump i used a normal skyline intank type.

Thanks Brunsy
I did think that this would not be that hard to do ....but leaving my head there makes it a whole lot easier.
I have tried to do a search on here but had no luck whatsoever...so if you or someone else can post a link it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Cheers Keith

Your right i cant seem to find any of my old posts.
It is a very straight forward power upgrade since the engine is already inplace and these are bloody good engines. I have played with them since they were new and better still you can get up around 200kw @ wheels with minimal money standard parts, and using the standard non turbo base engine.
Just so you get a idea dont pay anymore than this for the bits and you should be grinnin for less than 2grand
-airflow meter, dizzy, non-turbo computer(auto or man doesnt matter), inlet maniflold, fuel pump and loom $300.
There is only about 10 wires to connect to get it all running, doin it this way is good as it lets you get it running smooth, sort out all the sensors are working correctly because if you go turbo straght away a poor running donk can cost you a few pistons.
Once that is sorted start fabricating an intercooler, an old RX-7 one is fine can give you some pics of my old ones and how i ran the pipes. Then get hold of a VL turbo computer and injectors, be carefull with these as a turbo computer will usually have 3TA sticker or 3TM (auto and man) on it, but even still open it up and it MUST have two circuit boards inside. If not its not a turbo ecu dont buy it. They are only about $150 and around all the time, get a manual one if you can as the auto ones work fine but hold revs for a second when you jump off the throttle (no biggy realy). Injectors are expensive and most leak and look fuc*ed, dont buy these ones, think there are new ones for about $90 each, but you may find a good second hand set for around $ 250 you wont really get em cheeper. You can happily run you car with these injectors and computer even without the turbo inplace. Just makes it easier for when you collect all your turbo bits.
I have a turbo atm if ur interested that would do the job.
cheers

Cheers Brunsy...it is nice to know that there is some good info about this conversionhere...and from good experience too
Went to a local wrecker today ...and wouldnt you know ...they had just got in a vl wagon manual turbo a cuppla days ago . hadnt touched it as yet and the donk looked in really good nick..oil and water were clean etc.
But they were not gunna strip motor....would only sell complete with everything for $2200

.
Methinks they prolly had someone lined up for it anyway, and besides I didnt know turbos came in wagons

. So it looks like this little project may hafta wait till i get a bit more dough...altho I will take your advice and do the fuel injection part first to get it runnin properly. Havin extractors and bigger exhaust on already ...you never know it mite be enuff of a gain to stop right there. I guess one step at a time and evaluate from there. Rang some other wreckers in area that i have a little faith in and they all said they havent had any vl stuff for a few months now...seems it is getting scarce out here in th bush.

the plan

sounds like a good plan,
but....... once she is injected its too easy to turbo it. Anyways i have all the wiring diagrams drawn up if ya get stuck just pm me. Trouble with VL stuff is you have to deal with wankers, the two go hand in hand. I did my apprenticeship at Nizpro many years ago but the VL fraternity is still the bloody same. That said the calaisturbo forum is a good place to source your bits.
Did some thinking today about your manifold question and a bloody good idea came to me, ( I was in the middle a uni exam and should not have been daydreaming). RB-25 and RB-20 exhaust manifolds are the same and worth jackshit, infact i threw about four away (stupid). They wont bolt onto a RB-30 head BUT!!!!!! a one inch thick plate accomodating both the head studs of both manifolds would work a treat. This means a RB-25 ceramic turbo would bolt on beautifully, and they are grouse if kept under 10psi . Just a thought.
Im drawing the proposed adapter plate on CAD at the moment, may even be able to flog them off.

Well i have done a bit more snoopin around for bits...no luck either ...But...SWMBO thinks it will be a good idea speshly for towing our van when we get it...so one major hurdle overcome already

.
I checked on Ebay too...there are lots there ...ranging from a few bits to whole cars...so will be keeping an eye on this.
Brunsy...P/M sent

have you done anything with the adator plate yet?
