Hi Guys,
A mate has recently purchased a 12/84 G pak 60 series cruiser, petrol Carb'd 3F, 5sp manual, with the round headlights etc.
On the complience plate though, it shows up as fj62?
I thought the 62 series had the twin rectangular headlights, and one piece front window, as appose to the 60 series with the round headlights with the front windows having the little corner vent window as well.
Did they change the name to fj62 before they did the facelift in 1988(ish)????
Thanks for your help!

fj & hj 60 come out between 1980 & 1985
fj & hj61 & 62 came out 12/84 to 1990 with twin headlights
problem is buying a model on the cusp of a change they used to mix and match bits from old to new
previous owner/s could have also changed over radiator support panel at some stage

This is a common misconception.
FJ60 denotes a cruiser built to late 84 with the 2f motor in it. It will only have round headlights.
FJ62 denotes late 84 onwards with a 3f engine. They still had round headlights until the facelift in 88 when sqare headlights came in.
HJ60 ran from 80 through to 90 and denoted the normally aspirated 2H diesel. It was always called a HJ60 regardless of facelift.
HJ61 denotes factory turbo diesel. It came with round headlights and square headlights.
Hope this helps. (my time frames are approximate only)

This may clear up some confusion;
80 to 84 2F Petrol FJ60
84 to 90 3F Petrol FJ62
80 to 90 2H Diesel (non turbo) HJ60
85 to 90 12HT Direct Injection Turbo HJ61
Early wagons were either Std or "G"
Standards had swing out back doors with vinyl interior & G had lift up drop down tailgate with Cloth & Carpet
Early Sahara's had high Roof but only Single Air (Dealer fitted like low roof models)
Later Sahara's had Dual Air & Ice Maker (Factory Fit)
Twin Headlamps came out in 7/87 were standard across all models regardless of spec
The last couple of years of production the Low Roof GXL was available with Factory Flares,Side Steps, etc the same as the Later Sahara's had
fitted

I had the 85 fj62 Sahara update which was the first model to have the dual aircon but no ice maker. I think the ice maker came out in 88 models, but not to sure on that date.
Anyway, mine had the round lights and front 1/4 glass windows as well.

Chris, Don't quote me on this but I think the first without the 1/4 glass window for AUS was the late 88 Sahara.
Funny enough, but most 60 series exported to the US were without the 1/4 glass window.
Do a search in google images for a 88 cruiser and you will see an example.
I also remember seeing a Sahara on carsales the other day without the 1/4 window.
