There has been a bit going round lately on gearbox upgrades for hilux's.

It would appear the most common options are swapping w56 supra boxes and R series boxes from turbo hilux/surf.prado models.

If anyone has genuine tech available to add to this post so we can place it in the Bible, please feel free. If u just wanna add "i have a blown 454 running 48psi through my G52 and it hasnt broken" then go outside and tell the neighbours dog. This is for GENUINE tech only.

Thankyou :)

I have asked the question before cause i wanted a five speed gearbox not a four speed with an extra gear slapped on the side.

Got no responses

As far as i can come up with... the best option is to try and find a R151f that was bolted to the 2LT motors in Toyota Surfs as the bell housing should bolt up where a G52 sat previously... Im not too sure on how they fit length/width ways however.

In your case Tonka id assume you are using some kind of adapter to mate a G52 to a 1GGTE? Short of personally calling somewhere like Marks 4WD Adapters, this would be the option to take, or somewhere like Castlemaine Rod Shop.

Luxyboy... i think youll find even big boxes like H series toyota and GQ/GU still run 5th gear on a lay/counter shaft, they just use bigger bearings. From memory, Marks 4WD produce a bearing replacement for H series boxes from non-turbo diesel models that replaces the bearing for 5th gear to a stronger/quieter needle bearing type IIRC....

The "G" and "W" gearboxes share the same bellhousing bolt pattern
The "R" gearboxes have a larger bolt pattern onto the bell housing
Marks make a adaptor to fit the "R" series gearbox onto the "G" & "W" bellhousing
