i was just wounderin about weldint up my front diff, i can see y u should'nt weld the bak diff because the drive is always going to it and u would wear ur tyres alot more there for putting in an air locker, but the front diff is only locked it wen u lock in the hubs correct??? so u could weld the front diff and not have a problem on the road, but wen u hit the bush and lock it in 4 u would have a locker, am i correct?????

Jump in a truck with a front air locker that has no slip like like an auto locker. Turn it on and try drive around with it engaged. You'll have Arnie arms after a few trips cos she just wont turn

Don't do it. You wont be happy with it.
It'll be a bitch to turn. It'll be all over the shop. You'll bust cv's and shit.

leave on hub unlocked until you need it.
by the time you've blown your centre, and axle and a CV or 2 and the time, swearing and beers consumed fixing all this 6 months down the track you've paid for a proper locker, be patient and save!

what you can't blow cv's with a proper locker?

A locker will blow axles and cv's the same as welded centre. As for the centre, if welded properly it should break the cw&p before it breaks the welds. This will happen with any locker.

" after a couple of trips he gets sick of jumping in and out to un/ lock his long-side hub and decides he can deal with the understeer, bang goes a CV a few hours wasted swearing, chasing new parts and replacing. couple of trips later the cycle continues..."
what i'm trying to say is with an air-lokka you dont have to get outa the cab, cant forget to lock your hub after walking the track and letting laziness get the best of you.
but then if its just a budget basher and not a daily go for it!

if got a front locker and i use the rear 95% to the front and what they say about not steering is true.but that is only when they are both on it isnt to bad if only front is on. if you in dirt no dramas for the cv plenty of give but go on rock and 10psi and you could be unlucky.as nemesis said find out first hand i drove an auto locker and they give a good compromise well thats all i have

I've run with an ARB in the rear and a Lokka in the front for years now.
To date I've smashed 3 rear hemispheres, 1 rear axle (longfield), 1 ring gear on another occasion from the air line breaking off inside the centre and being crammed in the gears and with the front lokka ------ nothing (well I have smashed a longfield CV going dead straight up the steps BUT the rear broke first !!!!).
Driving in mud on rock and doing normal 4wheeling I find that the lokka performs smooth as and I don't have any problems with it wanting to drive straight ahead all the time.
Interesting thing is that I have paid top dollar to get the ARB diff rebuilt every time it's imploaded and the front lokka set me back $500 & I did the install myself and we have installed these lockers to 6 other 4by's in the past 4 years & they are all going strong as with ZERO breakages (yep they all get treated hard too)
I rekon that the good old mechanical lockers get a bad rap here.
