changing from air suspension to coils

Thinking of getting away from toyotas and into another Rangie but found one with air suspension... what do i need to change or can i get more out of the air bags. I have 35's so what do i have to do to make them fit???

i went from air bags to 35's lucky for my air system was working so i sold it and it paid for new shocks and springs.... u will also need flares of some sort

thanx Mick, i have already read the FAQ Tech Info (Bible), but doesn't really say anything specific about what needs replacing. Is it as easy as just putting in coil springs or do i need different spring towers??? Can i get more travel out of the air bags or am i wasting my time? Some comp trucks r running air bags how r these different????
Where did u sell your air bag system? ebay?

it is just as easy to replace the airbags in the rear but u will need to source some old style shock towers for the front or u can use the old front shock mounts but remeber to retain yr springs or they will fall out
LRA sold my air sus for me as they saw it working but it was kind of right place at the right time i am not sure how u would go now but u could just do a ring around and see who is interested in it.... I am not sure about using the air bags off road i personaly didn't like they way mine handled off road with air bags and there is way to many things that can go worng with it.... even a stick thru and air bag could strand u or mud in the a/c and they are not cheap to replace

What model Rangie, Daniel?
If a P38a, I've got heaps of info for you.
If a RRC, some of the P38a stuff might work.
I've got extended travel (crimp ring) springs for P38a but I'm pretty sure the RRC has different mount plates. Wouldn't be too exxy to laser cut an adaptor though out of 5mm plate or whatever.

To convert, you'll need the base plates for the springs and bolts to hold them down (coil models have these welded to the botton as std).
As MickRangie mantioned, earlier turrets from a coil spring model will stop the spring from falling out and I find the mounts on the front as per std on a air suspension model a bit vunreble (I cracked mine on Aquarangie).
It's not a overly hard job if you're handy and takes about a day all up. I just so happen to have the bits needed in my collection

hey Hardy , its a RRC which i'm guessing is a "Range Rover Classic"?? 94 old school shape. R u saying there is a way of getting 35's under it without loosing the air suspension????? if so send me the info plz
Aquarangie, how do the older style base plates mount to the diff do they have to be welded???
From memory the front shocker goes through the springs on the older rangies will i be able to run twin shockers? one in the middle and the other where it is now???

Well again, for RRC, some of the stuff I have MIGHT work.
I have long travel air springs (10" rear, 8.5" front - could put rear on front) that work well with the P38a. There shouldn't be any real big issues converting them to fit RRC - it's all in the mounts.
I haven't done it before and don't have an EAS RRC lying around to cross examine.
If we work that part out then I could organsise proper shocks to suit airspring, final travel and the pin/pin mounts.
It would be a shame to lose the EAS, I beleive it to be desirable.
Load leveling and variable ride height etc.

It's tricky but do-able - maybe a bit exxy.
There was a mob in UK called Ogden Air - real flex springs for RRC but last I checked they're website was gone. Do a search, you might have better luck.
Either that or swap to coils....
