Running leafs backwards?

Hey,

Wondering if this is possible.

If u have a spring with length at 1100 and centre at 575 from the shackle to pin. therefore u have 525 at the other end. Is it possible to swap these around and then get 525 at the front? Thinking this will bring the f/r rear forward/backward 50mm?

would the springs work like this at all.

Allowing steering and shackle mods as well where needed.

thanks

Nic

it will screw with the castor angle
i run the fronts flipped in my 40 to gain a extra 75mm

to do it properly you need top chop the perches from the diff and rotate it to get the correct pinion angle then cut and turn the nuckles to get correct castor

you can get away with it in the rear... front not as easy.

the mod you talk about can be done. no wuckers..... just steering and castor / pinion angles will be affected...

ive had my rears flipped aounf the other way 12 months now and still sweet as and flex well ;)

Hmm ok, guessing does nothing to the badly effect the life of the springs.

guessing if it were only 20mm, caster being out would be less of am impact.

Just getting some ideas and working out some spring lengths.

well.... my rear springs are 8 inches longer on one side... when i flipped them around i only had to adjust my castor marginally..... your amount of castor wont be much...

could prob flip around your leaves and just run 3 or 5 degree castor wedges....

Kewl thanks Screwy,

Are castor wedges model/car specific or are they spring width specific?

Are the any better ones to get or not to get? Cheap is better for me.

thanks

castor wedges are castor wedges... all models...

can get them 50mm wide, 60mm wide, 70mm wide in 3 degree, 5 degree, and 7 degree off the chelf at any 4x4 outlet....

try BBM offroad or My4x4.com they do them off the shelf i believe... not sure of the cost of them though....

need a pair of them obvoiusly..

If the leaves are flipped they really should have a new military leaf made with hole in new place for safety.

its going to change the whole character of the leaf...they are designed to flex one way...once you swap the sides the shackle is on its going to play havoc on them
