The petrol 4speed struggle to hold themselves up but the deisel box appear to cope alot better. Im running 253 with 4.5's on 35"s and haven't blown a deisel box yet. I used to run a 253 with 4.8"s on 35's with a petrol box and spat about 4 boxs.
Cheers

i've got a chev v6 behing a 5 speed diesel box.have blown a gearbox after only having the car for 2 months.so went with a later model box from i think the lst of the 2.4diesels. which have a thinner bearing setup to allow for bigger gears

A high compression 253 produces 138kw@4400rpm and 355nm of torque @2400 rpm. Compare this too what the highlux motor does and you will get a better idea of what will happen.

I had a 253 in my lux with a 5 speed did burnouts 6500rpm between gear changes (worked motor) I was hard on it never had a problem.
But then you get them blowing up under a little pressure.
