Everyone tells me i can't bang a 5spd box in me 2H 60 that is now a 4spd. None says why????
Obviously the box is longer so shafts require changing or mods, but what else stops you from doing it?
Oh yeah and search is no longer my friend.

dont have a 60, but the only thing that usually presents a problem with banging in 5speeds is the transmission tunnel clearance (along with afore-mentioned shaft lengths and associated shaft and crossmember clearances), which can be fixed several ways. Def not a big problem.

Useless info here, but sorry, ive had a couple of drinks...
I think you should stick with the 4 speed.
A 5 speed could make you get to a higher speed quicker, but I need all the help I can get in the lux,
to get to the next waypoint before you for the next navrun at Big River!
Have you tried this site too...

In my HJ47 - which has a tranny tunnel to suit the same four speed as what you've most likely got - i pulled out a 4 spd and put in a 5 spd - i didn'y really measure if the shaft lengths changed because of other mods, but i did have to relocate the shifter holes in the floor.
60's came out in a 5spd (yours is 82-84 model ??) so i wouldn't think they would have made different tranny tunnels in that short a time but i could be wrong.
5 spd is the go, so swap it and change whatever needs changing to make it work.

yeah go the 5 spd
tranny tunnels im pretty sure are the same
different cross member and shafts
and also output flanges
easier when doing conversion to get 5 spd shafts and later diff flanges as well

Cheers gys. I'm with you all but i would love to hear from someone that has done it just to confirm. i don't really want to shell out 500 bones for a second hand box and find it's a prick to fit!
