had my new coils fitted today. LRA 220lb fronts purple/orange and 320lb rears green (def 110 ute) and 'hsv rangies' rear arms

i had the idea that i would get the coils fitted and when i had a chance (daily driver and working 6 days a week) cycle them and sort out the shock mounts.

BUT, when i went to pic the truck up my mechanic told me the stock shocks where topped out (at full extension) and that i needed to get my shocks on asap.

so i drove out the drive way and down the road....... and turned around, went back and left my truck there..... shocks didn't sound good. i didn't want to risk breaking a shock on the way home

so tomorrow am the koni's go in and i'll have to take them out to sort out the towers/mounts..... but should be fine on the road.

so break lines need to be extended and i need to make some spring retainers

am i missing any thing else?????

cheers, Serg

ok, so not only did i get caught out.... i got stiched up

1st i ordered 'LRA purple' fronts, not the purple orange that where delivered. Andrew is sorting this out ASAP, sending the purples too me.
the springs ended giving me 159mm bump stop in the front, a bit more than i wanted. the purples are 25mm shorter

2nd the koni 80 series shocks i have for the front have a top pin 12mm dia and a bottom pin about 14/15mm dia.... ALL the washers and rubers that came with had 12mm holes.... not happy at 6am this morning trying to fitt them up.....

the bummer is now i have to take my car back and get the front coils changed... not the end of the world though

went to the brake shop today to let them look at the lines to be extended...

i'm looking at 125mm longer in the front and 100mm longer in the rear. any opinions???

Are the front shocks 125mm longer than standard and like was the rears 100mm? I would have thought that they only needed to be extended the same amount as the shocks.

Don't make the lines longer than you need, you will only have to worry about them rubbing on th tyres them.

my thoughts were that i didn't want them tight.

at current ride height, no flex, they look like they would only have a little down travel left(with out stretching) and the shock has about 130mm down travel in it.

the rear is a different set up as its a single lenght that come onto the diff center and then splits onlong the axle casing.... so at this point, even though i'll have more rear flex than the front, the brake line shouldn't travel as far because its closer to the pivot point of the axle

any thoughts???

What is the closed length of your new shocks, compared to the stock shocks?

And have you checked that the shocks don't bottom when the axle is about 25mm into the bump stop?

You may need to extend the top shock mounts.

thanks john, yeah we compressed the new ones (koni's 82 2385, toyota 80 series raised 50mm, fronts) next to the stock lr's and they were very close, within 5mm.

but there rears require new mounts.

this will all be done before any off roading
