Blue smoke on cold start only

Afternoon all,

I've got a G16A in my sierra and I've noticed that over the last week I randomly blow blue smoke during cold starts only (ie first thing in the morning). This lasts for about 15 seconds.

Now I'm aware blue smoke = oil, and she does swallow ~1L every 2-3 weeks but as far as smoking she doesnt do it while driving, up/down hills or blow constantly etc like i've seen in other posts.

some posts in other areas suggest valve stems are worth looking into, but not sure if this applies to the G16A since the posts were about diesel yota engines.

Oil currently used is castrol gtx2 with some oil additive (cant remember brand atm) if that matters and was last changed ~2 months ago.

Still guzzling oil eh. ;)

Valve stem seals seems bout right to me. although would notice more smoking i would think,

I would agree, valve stem oil seals are quite likely the cause.

I have replaced these on engines before and went down the road of stripping the head in order to get at them.
But I heard recently that it is possible to use a high pressure air line to get them out... (dont know the details..but if this is right it certainly saves on buying a head gasket ...not very expensive for a Zook but you would also avoid some of the hassle..)

Another temp solution would be to try one of the oil additives on the market that claim they can re-soften the harden rubber seals.

Good Luck!
