Ok i'm pretty certain that the pressure plate has craped itself on the GQ (only after 12,000km). I rang previous owner but he has thrown out all his receipts regarding this car (fair enough) so no replacement for me.
Anyway what clutch do i get???? It has a PBR heavy duty clutch in it which has been fine until now!! What price can i expect to pay for the clutch kit? (depending on brand)
Cheers

Most common brands are usually fairly good, namely PBR, Daikin, Highway or Exidy. Given that, if your Not driving it as it's maker intended then you're gunna need to spend bigger dollars on something better.
Exidy kits i fit regularly without problems and use a standard one myself in a supercharged HJ60. GQ kit sells for 450 ish off the top of my head.

Where in Vic are you?
I bought a Exedy Safari Tuff heavy duty from East Coast autos in Bentleigh East. From memory was about $525 in March this year. I've got the part number somewhere if you want it.
They could also supply the PBR (clutch industries) heavy duty one for a little over $300 I think.
Are you intending to fit it yourself? It's a prick of a job. (gearbox and transfer weighs around 180Kg)

Jimbo,
I run a custom button clutch wich would be around $850 new, The issue with nissan (td42) clutchs is the pressure the clutch need to release is too light, thus the unit is prone to slipping. From memory my new one is around 2200pounds( just a guess sorry ) But that is something i would possible look into as it will help prolong the life of the clutch.

I just got a quote for a
Daikin std clutch for $385 and
heavy duty for $455
I also got a quote from a mate in Adelaide who gets clutches from a place over their that makes them. Their prices were
900lb clamp pressre $375 or
Some high performance ceramic thing for $575
Is it worth going for the heavy duty? Are they good prices?
Cheers

I was speaking to a mechanic tonight who won't fit anything but genuine (talking about a 'cruiser). Is there any merit in this? He regards most aftermarket gear as rubbish.
He quoted me around $1000 to fit a genuine toyota clutch (@~$550), does that sound reasonable?
It seemed strange, as he didn't seem like the type of guy who would spend for the sake of spending!

Hey Jimbo, what engine are you running? The prices for clutches vary greatly depending on the engine. The $525 I quoted earlier was for a 4.2 diesel and was the best I could find by far.

I'm running a 4.2 EFI.
I think $1000 to supply and fit is reasonable.
I rang Nissan and they want $550 for the clutch kit alone.
I still havent decided on what clutch to get....probably a heavy duty one of either make.
Anyone else running heavy duty over standard??
