what do you mean by arch?
all welding ends up teh same really.
mig and stick have differant pro's and cons.
i would use teh one that you have the most confidence with as you are more likly to get a better weld with this.
or which ever is easier to get a hold of.
tig should not be needed.

cheers

If you are using a mig just crank the heat right up to get the best penetration. also wait to hear some other opinions on this as i am no the best welder out :)

yeah you will want good penetraion but you will also not want to warp or damage the steering box so just make suer where you are welding on to has a decent amount of metal there.

Yeah maybe do a bit at a time to let it cool down so it doesn't damage the box :)

before i start with my reply, are you planning on welding the steering box DIRECTLY to the chassis? Or are you not that stupid?

I was thinking the exact the same thing

Dave, when are you doing it?? I have my junk stripped down in my garage right now, just about to have the IFS box reinforcement plates welded up to the chassis.......then Im just gonna drill holes through them, and using crush tubes, mount the steering box.

Do a search on it, heaps of info on here somewhere.
