alrighty i have already put mq patrol axles under my rocky as they are a huge upgrade to the rocky in terms of size and parts.
Since im about to coil it i was wondering would it be wise upgrading to
GQ, GU or 80s axles?
im thinking they will be overkill for the limited power and untested
driveline of the daihatsu.
thoughts please

i wouldnt think it will be an overkill the only thing that you may want to think about is the fact that gq and gu are center diffs in the rear unlike the offset center in the mq

Be careful that you are not loosing your diff gearing. By my research, rocky's have a 3.9 diff gear (petrol) and I guess that that's pretty tall for any sort of decent tyre, so if you are planning anything else, just bear in mind the available diff ratios.
Considering the width, centre diameter and centered rear diff, might a hilux diff be a better solution? These are typically 4.3 or 4.5 ratio, with 4.88 available.
80 series are pretty much all 4.1
Nissan are 4.1, 4.3 or 4.6 (?)

alrighty...
not too worried about where the center is as ive gone from rocky slightly offset
to patrol being a bit further out.
the rocky diff ratios were 3.36 and the nissan are 4.6 so i gained a bit of reduction there.
hilux gave me no extra width and i considered them weaker hence the mqs.
im more thinkin in terms of "is the extra robustness necessary?"

i wouldnt think so
unless you are running a bigger motor and huge as tyres
mq's have reasonable diffs and weigh over 2 tonne dunno what the rocky weighs but its be alot less equalling alot less strain
id spend the dollars on lockers or sumfin else for the mq diffs

locker in the front and haultec cv's will see you with a very strong setup...
just look at what screwy ran at ttc this year...
