diesel/lpg power

Have been reading a few mags of late and have seen that some people are experimenting with lpg on diesel trucks. has anyone been trying this on say...... the supergutless 2.8 hilux???? cos i wouldn't mind some more power from mine and thought it may be an option. the sats were stating 30-40% in crease in power similar to a turbo. so if anyone knows anything???dont hold out on me!!!!

Here in the states every Saturday & Sunday their is tonz of show on moding trucks and cars. Last sunday they put propane injection on a chev diesel truck and it gave a 33% increase. The show went threw all the steps and it didnt seem like a realy big job. The hardest part seemed to be plumbing the lines and installing the tank. Suposidly it is a fairly safe mod. If I had a diesel it would be something I would look into.

LPG is best run in a high compression enviroment like a diesel engine, There is no need for carby floats,needles,jets,etc, just a simple throttle body..... same as a diesel throttle !!!
The hard bit,other than fitting the tank or lpg lines would be the lockout valve for the diesel in relation to the injector pump, but asume it would be a similar setup to say LPG on a fuel injected petrol engine.

skyzic is on the right path i want to know if anyone has a diesel running both at the same time its supposed to completely burn the diesel hence more power and better emissions. i think on of the trucks at tuff truck was runningthis set up in a patrol was turboed as well???

Was following this up for a while as I have a spare LPG system that I was looking at using on another vehicle.

The critical factor is the air/diesel/LPG ratios. Best power is generated when the mixture gets into the dangerous ratios for LPG versus Diesel so you need someone who either has some experience or you're prepared to write of an expensive dieselk engine :D

For the cost of the tune I'd leave the LPG installed but unplugged until you can take it to someone else who can replace your motor for you if they stuff it up.....

If you're after a bit more power rather than absolute maximum (or likewise a bit cheaper to run rather than cheapest to run) then there shouldn't be an issue - just leave it mildly tuned.

I had a mate look into this mod about a year ago, and he knew the bloke who was gunna do all the work, ill have a talk with him and see if he can get a contact number for yas

Dallas Green (proprietor) has done the new GU trayback recovery vehicle at LCMP. Supposedly best on turbo diesels. Ring and talk to Dallas as he is the man on this topic, no questions asked.

Not a cheap option, $3000 for a ZD30 GU. The cost will most likely fall eventually as more shops get into it and it becomes more popular. There are other workshops that do it, Team Green is a liitle more pricey, but they use better gear and know their stuff.

I dont Know why It costs So much The Most Expensive part is the Regulater. It was Basicly like a simple Nitrux setup.
Hit a Switch witch activates a Silinoid that releases the Propane into the Intake. As I Said the most Expensive Part is to regulate how much Propane your Releasing. Ive also Seen A Someone With Nitrux and Propane Injection for a total gain of about 300 HP.
Makes Me wish I had a diesel :D

What I was wondering with Diesel-LPG mix is does the engine run OK on just diesel if your LPG tank runs dry?

Finding LPG in the outback can be a pain at times.
But the extra go would be nice!

My understanding is yes it will run without LPG as the gas is only a supplement to the air intake. I saw a small article in 4WD Monthly some time ago and they said it needs 5% LPG to be noticed and 30% will spit out the crank. In between is varying degrees of power/torque increase proportional to the amount of LPG introduced into the system.

i have a mate who is into drag racing an all that good stuff. he also has a 48" sportfishing boat which he regularly runs half empty nos bottles in to. it already cruises at 35knots standard and goes like a dog shot in the arse when he turns on the nos.

I looked into this also a few months ago and to my knowledge the best gains are when you are already turboed. A lot of money at this stage to set up and without turbo I don't think its worth it. I had also heard that the LCMP Nissan (what the fu.. was toyota thinking) is on gas and turboed and goes like a wild thing. Had heard hp figures of some ridiculous amount but forget what they where. Also heard that it had a race with Kym Bolton and could not seperate the two. (could all be stories though :roll:

they hav been running diesel/lpg and diesel/alcohol mixes on trucks for years in the states try gooooooooooogle for some info
