steer box prob

hi just wondering if any one has rebuilt thee teer box in a disco and does any one have a manual for them?

sector shaft play like the bearing is rs play is from side to side and is just making my shimmy prob worse

If the sector shaft is moving that badly, I would say you'll need to rechrome the shaft as it sounds like a sector shaft needle roller has failed, maybe even both bearings at the bottom of the shaft housing. When these go, they score the shaft bearing surface badly. Does it leak?
Its actually an easy box to do, and even the haynes manuals describe it well.
Use a Halite bottom seal though, they are OE and are really tough.

it has only just happened since the gq diff went in and the steering shimmy has prob caused it

Yep I'd agree with that since most GQ's have a serious shimmy problem i've heard...Try a decent damper on the actual primary drag link like on a defender, this may help reduce shock to the bearings better.

I remember when my old man got a brand new GQ in 88' and the thing would shimmy and shake like shit, he has a GU now and its no better- even my 21 and 25 year old rovers handle better !

the gq front diff is crap it has something to do with the steering geometry

does any one have the bearing part numbers for the sector shaft and seal
so as i can do it this weekend
