same hear
ive got G285 code & ive got open diffs
as far as i'm aware G282, G283 & G285 which are all 4.3 can be either open or LSD
if one code was specifically for LSD then fourbys with slipperys would need two diff codes as they dont come out with LSDs in the front

Damn Toyota configurations! Sounds as bad as Isuzu's.
This one's got the original LSD sticker on the rear housing and it does work well in the mud.
According to that site this rear diff is a 4.300 LSD 4 pinion with 4 "fins" on each side of the carrier housing, which it has.

Last number on the axle code represents the Pinion and LSD
Pinion & LSD
2 = 2 pinion open diff
3 = 2 pinion LSD
4 = 4 pinion open diff
5 = 4 pinion LSD
Other verification of either 2 or 4 pinion diff is,
On a 2 pinion it will have 3 fins either side of the outer case.
On a 4 pinion it will have 4 fins either side of the outer case.
All Hilux's have 8" front and back unless it has IFS then the fronf diff will be 7.5" and the Ratio's will be the same.
You can check this out on the Surf Site
Diff Ratios
Also American released Hilux's have a different coding on the Compliance plate. So be carful when you do a search on the WWW
