MK SD33T Turbo Questions

Hi Guys,

I have replaced my pressure release valve on the inlet manifold - It was dropping all my boost anywhere from 4psi to 8psi. P.O.S

I installed a bung in its place ($1.50 from ENZED)

It will now hold boost to 11PSI - Boost controller installed aswell as guage.

My question is what is the maximum boost the stock turbos/motor can handle when intercooled / or not intercooled) In summertime I will run around 8PSI if not intercooled.

Also, what would be a simple bolt on turbo upgrade? Models and approximate pricing? I am in Perth, WA.

I am getting a big 600x400 front mount for it and a nice POD filter - Man this this sounds mean - When the turbo wastes it is awesomely loud :P (Wank factor)

Cheers boys!

Cody

I ran 12lb on my 350000kay sd33t with a top mount intercooler with no problems, though it is crutial you get the fuel right. Mine would go to 600 deg on the pyro if i let it but it NEVER went over 500 deg. (after initial tests).
Its very important to run a pyro on turbo diesels if your going to play with boost and fuel etc.

Could someone explain what a pryo's function is & what they cost? I've also heard people talk about anaoids on turbo diesels. What is their function also? Thanks

A pyrometer measures the exhaust gas temperature at the turbo ( well just after it). Commonly 550 deg celsius maximum temperature is acceptable though the motor will mostly run at around the 200-300 deg range. A VDO guage/kit will cost about $350. Never heard of an anaoids??

The book says 83 kw but Im sure thats at the flywheel. Mine was 53 kw at the wheels on 35's before I played with it and 80 kw after.
2.5 inch exhaust, finer filter, snorkel, 12lb boost and tuning the fuel up. Oh also injectors done.

thanx mate have the 3.3TD got the goods to pull the 2750kg's of the SWB patrol or are they underpowered.

Im tossing up between a diahtsu rocky lwb 2.8TD that has 75kw & 245Nm wich wieghs 2020kg's, (if i go down this path i will be throwing patrol axels underneath it)

i havent had the chance to road test a patrol 3.3TD as yet due to the sheer lack of them around & was dissapointed with the 2.8 petrol i drove (was slightly expected being such a large vehicle and small engine). and as i have just broken my arm test driving vehicls is going to be hard.

1st lesson for you all: if you are fairly well pickelled and there is a party buss going your way. i suggest walk, dont try and stand on the tow bar ride that to the other side of town. only ends up with a dislocated arm and broken elbow  :bad-words:

The red books wrong or that is the GVM. Mine had a tare of 1970kg, MK Deluxe SD33T but it didnt have all the fruit.

The GU is not even that heavy.

wouldn;t trust the red book or glasses suide - and I work in an industry that uses them... values are out sometimes but they do a good job - tech and model specs not always good though. Red book doesn't thikn the TD SWB came out till 86 and the glasses guide says they only come out in LWB..... I nearly drilled me compliance plates out to prove them wrong....

I ran my MK turbo diesel for years on 17psi boost with no problems. Had good power and was not intercooled. Sold it to a guy that has 10r's on it and never takes it off road and it had all the diff locks and everything. Cheap to buy noe and wouldn't mind getting it back.
