T700 trans problem

Looking at a VR Commo with the V6 and T700.
Oil level is correct.

It jerks heaps when its put in reverse and drive,
wont go into 1st gear even when held in,
will start off in 2nd if it's held in 1st or 2nd,
changes up thru to 4th but wont kickdown or change down when coming to a stop and will take off again in top gear unless you shift down manually.

Apparently these trans' are controlled by the computer to a degree so I dont know if it's that or a mechanical problem.

Any hints?

thanks

VR Commodore auto not controlled by computer (T700).

Later 4L60E (E for electronic???) is computer controlled.

Thats not right dude, VR commodores have a 4L60e. And it is electronic.

Are you checking the oil when the car is hot, level, in park and running?
What colour is the oil, red, brown, black? Does it smell?
Brown or black can mean burnt clutch frictions, or just lack of servicing.
Is the check engine light on?
Best thing to do would be take it to a trans specialist for an apprasial. Full rebuild with at least 12minth/20,000km warranty shouldnt be anymore than $2200 to $2500.
