I think I may cross to the darkside, sell the ute and get a Vit' but I don't know much basic stuff about them. I spent some time in the bible but need to know:
What are the rear seats like? ie one piece, 60/40, 50/50.
Do all vits have rear seats? Can you fit a kids capsule in them?
Can three little kids fit across the rear?
Is there much space behind the rear seat, even just for the odd toolbox and esky.
Are soft tops or hard tops the same price? I'm looking around $5-8 tho to spend.
When did the V6's come in?
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Nic,
Consolidating my "fleet". Need a car that can travel through a vineyard without getting torn apart or damage the vines. Hence the zook, but, also need a car that can take the team into town when need be, hence the Rodeo. Rodeo gets scratched to the sh*thouse driving in the vineyard and doesn't like hot weather at walking pace like the zook. The 40 series is on blocks in semi retirement but very tidy. My idea was to get a small 4wd wagon and put my small box trailer behind it when I need a "ute" but I still need to carry some tools and gear all the time. I don't intend to go any further off road than normal farm 4wdriving so wheelbase etc is not an issue.
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: Sierra to Vit'

The SWB have a split folding rear seat for two although there may have been some budget models that had a single piece seat. The LWB has a 60/40 rear seat for three. Also the middle of the LWB only has a lap belt.
Do all vits have rear seats?
Yes
Can you fit a kids capsule in them?
Yes. On both sides of the SWB and LWB but not in the middle of the LWB.
Can three little kids fit across the rear?
Yes in the LWB
Is there much space behind the rear seat, even just for the odd toolbox and esky.
The seats in the SWB are on runners and can slide back and forward plus you can fully flip one half out of the way. Depends on the size of your Esky and toolbox. The LWB has more room back there.
Are soft tops or hard tops the same price?
Pretty much.
I'm looking around $5-8 tho to spend.
That should get you a pretty good one if you're not in a rush.

Nic, I just realised you were talking about lwb,swb seirra's
I would like to try a Vit as the current zook is my 3rd seirra and would like something "more modern". I travel to Cowra twice a week and Orange about once a week in summer so comfort would be a bonus. Aslo whe did the 2litre come in and what do you get for the trim levels, ie JX etc.
Thanks for the info cj.

The LWB 2.0 V6 was released in '95 and the SWB 2.0 4cyl was released in '97. Both the 2.0 models also get larger fuel tanks than their 1.6 versions.
To give you an idea my '98 V6 LWB auto with 93,000km on the clock cost me just over $8000 earlier this year. The deals are out there if you are patient. The Vit's basically came as either JX or JLX although there were the odd marketing special editions. The JLX gives you all the power options, central locking, better trim etc.
