I was doing a few odd jobs to the patrol that ive been putting off till this weekend. when i finished i started her up and noticed smoke coming from a lge nut with two wires coming out of it. this nut is almost at the back of the inlet manifold coming out the drivers side. It seems like the insulation has come off with age and may be shorting out inside. Can someone tell me what it is and can i drive to work tomorrow with it disconnected?
1999 4.2 gu turbo.

Sounds like a co2 monitor, can't think of the real name. If it is I don't think there will be a big issue driving it to work. It will mess with the computers mapping though and may not run quite right(overfuel etc) plus I think it is illegal to have it disconnected, hopefully the constablery would understand that its the long weekend though.

Don't take this as gospel, I am not a mechanic by any means.

this nut nothing sounds like the air preheater, apart from heating the air in the manifold is it necessary to have it.
