G'day Guys
I am thinking of buying a newish 4x4 Patrol, it is a 4.8ltr with the works, winch, diff locks front and rear, muddies (cooper) bull bar, tow bar, snorkle, window tint, cargo barrier, lifted suspension (i dont know how much, maybe 2 in) all TJM stuff, tho the lockers are ARB... I have the car getting looked at today at our local 4x4 place, but I was just after opinions on these things..
Ohh this has 95000kms on it, its in really good condition, couple of scratches on the plastic gaurds, full service history from Nissan, and it was something like an RTA car or something....
Thinking if I do buy it I would put it straight on to LPG (dual option)
whats your opinions on these things any one....
Casey

It looks awesome too chimpboy. I meen this car if it turns out to be ok Under it, like if it has been hammered the under carrige should tell some signs of abusse, but yea, if it turns out OK, then that will be sitting in my driveway along with a hefty Morgage on the house, DOH!!!!!, but I cant dissclose the price just yet, as it is pretty good.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get cashed up doing a morgage, cause I will be buying it that way. Hope it doesnt take too long, all be pulling my hair out...

Sequential Gas injection is the way to go. More power than a regular LPG system and it uses less gas. It does cost a bit more than a regular LPG system though...
If you don't want that patrol , PM me and I could be tempted !

remember they are very expensive to run if you use them daily.. wont be good with a mortgage if your thin on coin.

Thanks for your concern, all though we may struggle every now and again, we are going pretty good, My current car is a XR 6 tickford VCT falcon, (
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1 which isnt the cheapest thing to run around town too, but it doesnt help that my right foot is always pointing to the floor, lol.. Tiz good on the HWY but....
I had the gas injection quote done just as we speak (type) it will cost $3700, costs a bundle, MAN THAT IS A HEAP OF FUEL.. lol.... or the older type which will cost $2900, so either way it kinda expensive..
Nice car for the money though..

Casey, I think you'll find those quotes will only use the standard auxilliary tank already on the GU and that only gives you about 30 litres of petrol. If that's the case it's worth paying extra and getting a larger auxilliary tank of about 70 litres fitted at the same time. It will cost more but if you intend any touring you'll need the extra petrol capacity in some places.
Regards Andrew.

Yea your right, the fella only said it will be a 95ltr useable tank, though you would think that would be enough hey. I spotted soewhere on the net a person getting 450 - 500k per tank of gas around town, I thought that sounds reasonable, I just cant get over the inital cost, its a killer...
I am still considering this vehicle though, It is awesome..At the same time FUEL is only going up, So I have really got my thinking cap on.. lol...
I drove this vehicle tonight, and had it looked at today, another drive with my partner tomorrow, then it time to come to the crunch, will keep ya's posted..

Depends on variables:
- who is the lender
- how old is the existing valuation
- is the existing valuation sufficient to cover the increased loan
- what is the loan to value ratio (high LVR,will most likely need a new valuation)
Depending on you lender, timeframe is something like this:
- 1 day application
- 1-2 days assessment
- 3 days for valuation (may be ordered before assessment starts saving a couple of days)
- approved and valuation back, then 1-5 days for documentation (some lenders will take over 7 days)
- 1-3 days to sign your docs and send them back
- 1-3 days for the docs to be checked
- 2-4 days to settle/draw loan
In short, for cash in hand ready to go buying:
- 14 days best case, good lender
- 21-28 days average and most likely scenario
- 28-40 days for an average lender (meaning, average in service standards not size, ie NAB or CBA could quite easily take 30+ days at the moment)
And, I would think the fuel ecomony (or lack thereof) will be NOTICEABLY worse for the GU over the Falcon. Expect 20L/100 best case around town, with normal driving.

As said above get a decent aux tank, a mate had one that had the gas a 30ltr petrol tank and used to have to take 4 jerry cans of fuel on a weekend trip to have enough fuel

Thanks fellas
I am going a head with it all, I got the best price I could hope for.... $29,000.00
Woo hoo, I guess they found it hard to sell because of high fuel costs....
It has lifted Tjm springs/shocks, ARB Lockers front and rear, Bull bar, Warn winch?? dont know the size or even how to use for that matter, lol.. It also has a Tjm snorkle, cargo barrier, heavy towbar, side steps, Cooper tyres s/t, tinted windows, cruise control, leather wheel, Really clean and no dings, has some sracthes from trees and stuff on the sides (plastics) but other than that this thing is rock solid, awesome... also it only has 95500kms on it..
Now even better news for me is, I had a quote from a friend of mine today, he said he will fit a Normal gas (impco or sprint gas) cant remember which one, but he will fit it, and also add a 78ltr sub tank for $3300.00 all up, so I will get that done aswell...
All up I think i am going to be very happy with the car.. I can't wait..

something to keep in mind RE the price of LPG is that the LPG excise will come into play in 2008 so the price of LPG will be ALOT closer to the price of petrol
Cheers,
Jes

As Jessie said. Gas will get higher excise. But still is goign to be heaps cheaper than running gas. My SWB TB42 (carby) uses probably 1lt more per 100km on gas compared to petrol. So thats $1.40 petrol or 50cents for gas. Even with the new excise added on I do enough to pay that off pretty quick.
Also before you do the install.
There is probably enough room under a GU to fit a couple of scuba style gas tanks. These are smaller 40-60lt size tanks (need 2). A mate has them under his 100series LC (think there may be 3 tanks). This allows him to have dual fuel, but also keep both factory petrol tanks.
This is how I would set it up.
They where first setup for using in the backs of Disco's. Worked well with a small shelve on top.

Sorry Jessie, not 2008, it starts on July 1 2011 and goes up in 2.5 cents/litre increments per year till it reaches a maximum of 12.5 cents/litre on July 1 2015.
See this link to the Government Department of Industry.
http://www.industry.gov.au/content/itri ... 9631F35E0E
Still lots of savings to be made on LPG for quite some time.
Regards Andrew.

actually its
"
The Government proposed that the excise rates on exempt fuels and the effective rate on ethanol be increased in five steps beginning 1 July 2008. Final rates would be effective from 1 July 2012.
it starts in 2008. it finalises in 2012
Of course there are savings to be made now and then, but by the time the excise is in, the price of LPG and petrol will be alot closer

Sorry Jes, but my link (Federal government department of Industry's own link) states:
"The Government has announced that autogas will enter the fuel excise system from 1 July 2011. Excise will be introduced in five equal steps to a final rate of 12.5 cents per litre on 1 July 2015. LPG used for domestic purposes (eg. heating and cooking) will remain excise free. To coincide with the introduction of excise, a $1000 subsidy for consumers who purchase a dedicated or duel fuel LPG vehicle that is delivered new will be available from 1 July 2011, ceasing on 30 June 2014."
This same link was last updated on 29/05/2006 so it is current. I have seen similar government links to what your stating but when checked they were dated sometime around 2002 or 2003 and the official government position regarding alternative fuels has changed since then.
Regards Andrew.

I brought a '02 4.8L ST. 5 speed auto, alloy wheels, factory bullbar, 68k KM on the clock, factory towbar. coopers tyres I brought it 12months ago for $30k from a Toyota dealer in Toowoomba Qld, it was a local farmers wifes car and was in as new condition, I am very happy with it. The fuel consumption is as follows and I only use PULP
14.5 L per 100km highway (cruise control on)
16-17 L per 100km city
22L per 100km on the beach towing a camp trailer
I am not going to do to many mods to it as I only use it on the beach, I put the electronic rust prevention on it from my old 4wd, and am about to install a dual battery set up for the engel fridge.
4.8 (185kw) YOU`LL LUV IT

That is good to hear
Might be able to afford to keep the GQ for longer than I thought
I love LPG
BTW Casey, the GU sounds like a weapon - nice score
Have you thought about straight LPG ? Thats what I have in the GQ and I have no hassles at all

From the Patrol4x4 forum. Maybe something to consider in your gas conversion sums.
streetfox wrote:
I have had a 4.8 TI for nearly 5 years...in fact is was the first 4.8 in Aust. I have no problems with the car, but I have had issues with the motor. It maybe my own fault because I gassed it, but at 19ltr per 100km's, who would blame me? Valves, seats and guides all replaced at 120K, costing $4k. Oxygen sensors at 125K, costing another $400. All related to gas motoring. The car is very powerful. I tow an off road Jayco with 4 kids and all the camp gera you can think of. I set the cruise at 110Km's and there is not a hill which will slow it down.
I guess you have to weight up the cost of petrol or the issues with gas if you decide to go that way.
We get arround 400km's from a 93Ltr tank of gas...this goes down to 350 under tow.

What is going on with Nissan.
I have had a 180B powered Datsun 1600 , a 260C and now the Mav and the engines have been great.
Nisan also produce one of the best V6 engines in the world being the engine that powered the Maximas.
How can a company stuff up such a wonderful legacy. Are the French owners to blame??
Time to go back to basics...bring back the Cedric.
