Cheap theft prevention

G'Day All,
I use one of those steering wheel clubs on my steering wheel as theft prevention...well to slow them down. I looked into the Grant removable steering wheel. The steering wheel's are relativly cheap but the adapter kit for the US Rocky is around $180.00. It would be cool to take your steering wheel off but that is way too much money. Good car alarms cost quite a bit also and they won't stop a determined thief.
I bought some two wire lamp cord and tapped into the fuel pump. I covered the wires with that flexible corrigated plastic sheath and ran it up to the firewall and inside the truck. I put a toggle switch in the ashtray and can turn the fuel pump on and off. Hopefully a thief won't take the time to have a smoke. I just have to remember to turn the fuel pump on before trying to start the truck. I might find a better place to put the switch like in the front under the seat.

I'd find a different place, 1st place a thief looks for loose change is in the ash tray
When my car was broken into a little while back, the theif hit about 60 cars in a day, they took all the ashtrays for fingerprinting as that was the one thing in common that had been touched.

I'd change the location anyway..... the whole world now knows where your secret switch is!!!!
There are some good alarms around here on Oz for under $200 if you're handy with vehicle electrics. The Aussie designed/made ones are some of the best value for money around.
I know a lot of alarms/immobiliser made in the USA are pretty useless in the immobilisation stakes as the companies are worried about getting sued if the immobiliser malfunctions causing the engine to cut and then a subsequent accident. They only disable the starter motor circuit- and then they often use a normally closed relay. (ie find the alarm module, unplug it and you can start the car.... or just hotwire the ignition and push start it!)

I guess that the ashtray isn't a good mounting location. Hey, I trust ALL you guys! I just thought that it was a good idea at the time as I only have about $5.00 invested in it and a thief isn't going to go very far without a fuel pump.

The hidden switch is a good idea, you just need to find another secret location
. The fuel pressure would probably be high enough to start the engine but it would then splutter and die very quickly.

Agree the ash tray is not a good spot.
You don't say what engine you have, petrol or diesel ?
A petrol engine will run for a few seconds but a diesel will not start at all without the fuel pump.

Id prefer tp a bit more discreet than reaching upwards.
You can also use the cig lighter, when its in it completes the circuit & all good but remove it, take it with you & no go.
That would be a hard one to find !

The old land rovers were good if u wanted 2 imobolise them easy. Just crawl up under the drivers door and unplug a wire for the fuel pump and your set

One of the best things 'bout owning a Feroza.....is they're NOT targets for car thieves !!
I'm still of the opinion, if they want it...they'll take it !! Doesn't matter what immobilizer or alarm system you put on it.....if they want it....they'll take it !!
Just make sure you've got good insurance !! 'cause they do less damage to it if they get it easy !!

does that mean a kill switch to the fuel soleniod (does it have one?) wont work on a 3b?
if not where else could you hookup a kill switch on one?
