STOP!

Under heavy breaking what would cause my disco to squirm like a snake on speed? It seems as if the front wheels just get a mind of their own and it becomes a battle to keep it in a straight line. It is worse with the simexs, but also does it with the 285/65 BFG All terrains. All the tie rod ends have been replaced recently and it also has a relatively new steering dampner (only a couple of 4wd trips) although I haven't taken it off to check yet? Steering box is very responsive to input so that appears to be in good order also.

Also check rear balljoint, i went to replace my a frame bushes and found the balljoint completely shagged, i could move the ball 5mm in the socket !
I had similar symptons, and now the wandering has reduced dramatically.

Yep, I had exactly the same thing. I replaced the rear A-frame bushes and ball joint and it is heaps better. Not perfect but at least I don't end up in the other lane under hard braking now.

worn or loose radius arm bushes might also cause it, in addition to the A-ball/panhard rod bushes previously mentioned....
